Looking at the table, in particuar the Spurs, West Ham situation, made me think.

Apply this only to the Premier League. Most people think that 40 points is the benchmark to avoid relegation, well, what about if every team that failed to make 40 points was relegated and the same amount of teams came up from the Championship.

Would it or could it make competition fiercer and better?

Whaddya fink?

I quite like it - it would create a certain amount of transfer inflation and activity in January - with over half the league panicking that they might drop. TK might have to revise his late strategy

Not a lot!
Cast your mind back to September 1980 when Fulham RLFC launched in RL's 2nd Division of 15 clubs. 4 were promoted York, Wigan, Fulham & Whitehaven or 26% of the teams. 1981/82 4 teams from 16 of 1st Div (25%) relegated Fulham, Wakefield, York & Whitehaven. 1982/83 4 teams from 17 (23%) promoted from Div 2 Fulham, Wakefield, Salford & Whitehaven. 1983/84 again 4 teams from 16 relegated (25%) Fulham, Wakefield, Salford & poor old Whitehaven again. None of that improved either the quality of the rugby nor the financial viability of the clubs involved. I suppose Whitehaven were the original yo-yo team before Fulham FC turned P&R into an art form now ably taken forward by Burnley.

If anything 2 up/down would be better & bugger the playoffs.
