I saw an interesting article on FB about his involvement in sport. He's a Cricket fan, not much of that in the States. His involvement in sport is more to do with him having something to do with his son. You can't fault a man for that. Tony appreciates the time they have together. The Jags have benefited from that and hopefully in time we will as well.

The Khan's have acted both swiftly and decisively to replace Marco Silva I haven't seen any praise from the usual suspects for them doing that,
The moaners would have been queuing up to post if they had dragged their heels.

Wait, we have a new coach?

"Swiftly and decisively" that's not what I'd describe this situation.

How come? I'd say they've done a good job if Arbeloa signs tomorrow or early next week, which is sounds like he will.

demeant0r

1. We don't have a manager yet
2. Decisively would've been putting your foot down six months before the end of the contract. Marco was never realistically signing a new contract because if he was it would've been done last summer.
3. Swiftly and decisively would be describing how Bournemouth announced a replacement before the end of the season

cookieg

If SK has been at fault over Silva leaving I think he was too trusting that he was going to sign a new contract. As said above as soon as we were safe he should have forced the issue and if Silva wasn't going to sign then put him on gardening leave.

Once again there is NO apostrophe in Khan's unless you are using the possessive singular (which would not make sense anyway). It's Khans with no apostrophe.

Having got that off my chest, I have to disagree that there has been swift and decisive action. For months prior to his departure it was very obvious indeed that there was clear risk that Marco would not sign a new contract. Did we have a plan in place? Clearly not. Even if Arbeloa signs, and right now he hasn't, that does not suggest fast and decisive to me, it suggests we waited passively until Marco left then trawled the available market.

And before you say anything I am emphatically not in the anti-Khan camp, I think they have been, and continue to be, excellent owners. I just do not agree with your claim.

Mickeyboro

Why can't they take it as seriously as we do?

I Ronic

Despite Tony saying he didn't think Marco would leave. Which personally I'm not sure I believe.
Someone would have been seeing who was available, who fitted the Club profile. If the press is to be believed and we're negotiating permanent deals for last seasons two loanies. Wouldn't at least the Chuks deal need to get the nod from the potential incoming manager?

You're so right Twig! About the apostrophe at least.... I also agree that the Khans have been excellent for the club (and seem to be working to a long-term plan).

I can understand Tony thinking he was going to stay, by the fact only couple of weeks earlier Silva was saying they had met to discuss next season and they were all on the same page, that sounds to me like he was going to stay.

Why would they take it seriously? They've only stuck a billion plus quid into the club and tried their hardest to make the club successful and sustainable. That's nowhere near serious enough.

I totally agree with the sentiment of your response Old Count . My only quibble is ' they' . Shahid puts in the money ( albeit for his son's and the clubs benefit) I just get a little exasperated by the fact that they are not one entity - they are different people with individual strengths and weaknesses.

I can't help thinking that Silva was stringing us along to get the job Benfica job.

Wasn't the Benfica job dependant on Jose going to Real and there was a doubt who was President?

I don't think it matters what the Khans do (no apostrophe 😂) as there will always be an element of our support who will criticise whatever they do, would prefer us to have given Silva a contract for life, prefer to be playing 4th division football etc. I'm sure if they sorted out the Hammy End loos nearly all could be forgiven.

I think they have learned a lot from early mistakes and but worked with the club's best interests at heart ensuring we are secure at CC for many years to come. I don't even think TK has been as high profile as he was.

Time will tell but I'm quite excited about Arbeloa coming in and what it could mean for our young players.
