Quote from: cookieg on July 07, 2026, 10:00:03 AMGiven the fact that Marco's contract officially ended on June 30th I'm not entirely sure what conversations SK was expected to have with potential replacements. "Hey Poch, I'd like to talk to you about taking over as Fulham manger although the current manager doesn't know if he's leaving or not so there may or may not be a job" doesn't sound entirely professional.

Maybe SK was too naive in trusting Silva. No one on here knows what went on in the discussions between SK/TK and Silva and there will be endless speculation that the board did not give enough assurances to Silva but for them to think he was staying, I feel, can only be because Silva led them to believe he was. Silva's agent was probably aware of the Benfica/Real Madrid merry go round and used this to string us along. I don't know on what grounds SK could have sacked Silva  while he was under contract to Fulham and having offered him a new contract. My knowledge of employment law isn't great but I'm sure this would have led to a tribunal of some sort for unfair dismissal or something along those lines. Those on this board who look at any opportunity to jump on SK/TK will use this against them but Silva doesn't come out of this situation untarnished.

Who really knows?

First and foremost, yes you can absolutely scan the market, talk to other managers while someone else is still in charge. You can absolutely during this time find interesting managers, such as Poch, and say "we are looking to recruit a new first team manager, are you interested?" while also considering extending your current managers contract. There is no obligation for the club to provide any  information about other candidates in your recruitment process to other candidates. So Poch has no business in knowing who else we are speaking to. Very simple in fact. In fact, sometimes these things actually accelerate your recruitment by implying that you are looking at other managers. Its actually very common.

Secondly, Silva holds no responsibility over the clubs recruitment process. He is actually -at that stage - just another candidate to be fair. Now personally I think the writing was on the wall for this one: mou to Real Madrid was heavily reported, and Benfica interest in Silva very much so as well.

Now its up to Fulham if they want one person, one candidate, Marco Silva, to dictate this process by stalling and waiting for Benfica to offer him a deal, but I certainly wouldnt if I were TK. No one is bigger than the club, there are plenty of qualified competent managers who would love to manage a Premier League club, especially a mid table one at that. So Marco would be a big loss but in no way irreplaceable

cannot believe we haven't a replacement to come in.

Apparently the non-WC players return this Thursday.

Regardless of what really goes on, the club has gained a reputation for taking too long to get things done and poor communication.

This issue is just the latest poor bit of business.

My gut feeling based on all the rumours is that we probably have got someone in. And if that's the case that person (Arbeloa) will most likely be getting on with stuff. It's been widely reported that it's work permits and the Home Office causing the delays with the official announcement, which is why I'm not particularly bothered.

Quote from: demeant0r on July 07, 2026, 08:53:16 AMWe shall see very soon if we were after Poch. If not, then I guess it is Arbeloa waiting on his visa.

So the plan is to let everyone know that the Arbeloa's visa being held up is just a ploy so that we can sign Poch when the US are out of the World Cup? Sounds a rather unlikely conspiracy theory don't you think?

That's reading way too much into what I wrote. I wrote that if we were after Poch then we shall soon see. If we weren't then these Arbeloa rumours are most likely correct. Let's not forget that we hadn't heard about Marco signing until a few days before it happened, we are a secretive bunch.

And who says we were after Poch? Why do you think we were?

Are you actively looking for a fight?

Fight? I asked perfectly sensible questions. I haven't seen one credible journalist link us with Poch only people who post on here. Can you really see us appointing Poch after the many posts in the media about his visa?

The Cravenette

If all the coaching staff are awaiting their work permits, strictly speaking they cannot be "getting on with stuff". It is called a work permit for a reason!

Super Mick

All this waiting around bollocks had better be worth it!!

Your replies are just aggressive. I've not seen any sources linking us to Poch, but did we have any sources linking us to Marco until a couple of days before he signed? For all we know, Arbeloa could be smoke and mirrors until the USA get knocked out. In any case, we'll probably know in a week or two.

Apparently we started talking to Arbeloa on June 10th...

It's baffling how this has taken so long to sort out.

Other teams are starting to get busy in the transfer market, and we are moving as quickly as the turd drains away in the hammy end bogs.

All this faffing around really isn't a good magnet to attract players when it's taken nearly a month, and still no boss!

Once again none of us know how much is going on behind the scenes, I believe and I'm no way in the know, that they have been sorting out work permits for staff, although that could be a load of tosh.

Just the final details to complete on one of the four young Real stars Arbeloa's bringing with him. Bellingham being with the England squad makes it a bit more tricky.

Needs to be quick as Arbeloa will soon be due a Testimonial.

BestOfBrede

Could be that the club want to let the players meet the new boss before announcing to the world?
Show them respect rather than getting a text?

Who knows, but it's doing my head in!

Stinks to high heaven, this isn't about permits, would have been done by now, something not right with this.

Agree. Permits never takes this long, unless Arbeloa isnt deemed qualified enough and that drags on the while process. Still, this should have been sorted by now

DadCreature

Maybe they really are talking to Poch?   While I think we have some of the kinds of players he likes, I'm not sure we are his kind of place.
