It seems to me this thread has come about because in quick succession journalists have said we aren't getting Garcia, Mastuoano or Nwaiwu.

If the info had said we are still on for those 3 then I doubt this thread would exist. Like all Fulham transfers there will be a few more twists. I expect we've not matched what Madrid want so they have come out and said their players are staying.
Thus back to the negotiating table. When we get closer to what they want I expect the transfers will be back on again.

No need to panic. But yes, I do agree with fans frustrations that we are so so slow in the market. It does need improving

Quote from: Angus Telford on July 24, 2026, 02:20:24 PMWe can complain about fine margins all we like. The bottom line is Brighton have finished above us three years in a row and made Europe once.

So have Bournemouth.

Palace have finished above us two out of three of those years and won a domestic and European cup.

Forest have made Europe once in that time and they haven't at any point been relegated, contrary to what some on here seem to think. They played a blinder, and go into this season with a stronger, younger squad than us as it stands, and a top manager.

Well it is fine margins isn't it?
Brighton, who you seem to revere, have finished above us by one point twice in those three years. Canny market players, they've hardly pushed on with all those additional funds.

Palace have finished above us once.

Forest, each to their own, but I wouldn't want a chairman like him gambling with the future of this club like he has. If they went down either of those seasons, they'd be in huge trouble.

Bournemouth I hold in high esteem, both for their scouting, the way they play and the fact they have about 15 fans but still challenge up the table. I think most fans would be impressed by them (they've accumulated a massive 5 points LESS than us in the last 4 seasons).

There's a certain amount of "I need it now" from some fans. They need transfers now. Not for any real reason, the difference between signing someone now and next week is minimal in the grand scheme of things.
It's the same impatience that allows streaming sites to charge people not to watch 30 seconds of ads every 15 minutes, it just seems to be that the way things are.

Well said Jim
I have never seen so much histrionics in one thread. It's pathetic. I am happy to wait until the end of August and make a judgement then

Would you actually be happy to see majority of business done at the end of August? Jim has mentioned there's no real difference in signing someone this week or next week. I would say that it's an advantage to have as many new players in as early as possible due to squad integration.

I would prefer to have all the new players in now. But as I am unable to influence this at all I am content to sit back and bide my time. There is no point worrying about something over which I have no say

Supporters have no say on anything that FFC do.
That's true of the vast majority of clubs

So your argument is that we can disregard their collective 4 x European qualification, 1 x domestic trophy and 1 x European trophy because their aggregate points tallies aren't actually much more than ours?

Not at all, that's impressive, what I was attempting to get across is look how close we've come to that whilst still having to put up with huge amounts of negativity from some fans, it's incredible.
(You said this, which to me makes it sound like we're miles away from them: With the same dreary outcome: an underwhelming lower mid-table finish, looking over our shoulder hoping a run of injuries or bad luck doesn't suck us into the relegation battle, whilst clubs like Brighton and Forest take it in turns to play in Europe.)

You can dress it up however you like but at the end of the day all those teams you mentioned have qualified for Europe and one of them won a European trophy. Unfortunately for us we've missed out on Europe so I'd say they all achieved more than us.

Or, given where I live, Brighton or even Bournemouth.  But my club is Fulham - a choice I made a long time ago - and I really don't care if other clubs achieve more.  I enjoy the Fulham experience, win, lose or draw.  Of course there are disappointments and frustrations but that's life.  I enjoy the Fulham experience, win, lose or draw. Whatever the team, manager, owner, division - my club.

I'm not concerned about clubs either. The point of this thread if I've interpreted it correctly, is when you compare Fulham with teams that are similar to us in size and revenue we have underachieved by missing out on European qualification.

I'm guessing (just as all those are doing with regard to who we're trying to sign and at what price) AA would have had many suitors but he chose us and convinced his backroom staff to join him.
I'm guessing he was made promises with regard to what money was available and I'm guessing, a list drawn up, of preferred targets.
AA's been in football most of his life. So knows better than most, the dealings that go on between players, agents and clubs.
What I do know is, we're always the last to know and that's never going to change.

Whilst all of the above is most probably correct, it was hoped that Alvaro with all his contacts @ RM would be able to close the deal. Unfortunately Alvar0 & our negotiating team have to deal & arm wrestle with Mourinho who changes his mind about not wanting / wanting Garcia et al. Even though he still wants to strengthen his team further thereby giving even less opportunity to Garcia et al
