Fabrizio Romano: Fulham now in direct talks to sign Alvaro Arbeloa favourite
Fulham have now held club-to-club talks with Real Madrid to sign Cesar Palacios, with new manager Alvaro Arbeloa personally keen.

The Cottagers want to improve their attack this summer, and Arbeloa is plotting a raid on his former club, with striker Gonzalo Garcia also of interest, after scoring six La Liga goals for the Spanish giants last season.

Palacios isn't quite as experienced at first-team level, having only made seven senior appearances for Madrid, but he has impressed for RM Castilla, picking up 19 goals and six assists in 77 appearances for the Primera Federacion side.

The attacking midfielder has also impressed for the Spain U19 side in the past, with scout Jacek Kulig lauding him for an "excellent" performance against Greece U19s.

However, at 21-years-old, the Spaniard is now at an age where he needs to be receiving regular game time at senior level, and he appeared for just 81 minutes in La Liga last season.
As such, a move to the Premier League could be enticing, and Arbeloa is now eyeing a reunion with his former player.

The La Liga side still need to give the green light though, and negotiations are currently ongoing. Garcia remains of interest, but he could remain at the Santiago Bernabeu, with Jose Mourinho still yet to make a decision regarding his future.

Why Fulham need to sign Cesar Palacios

Lack of goals last season	Fulham often struggled to find the net in the Premier League last season, scoring just 47 goals, and Sunderland were the only side that finished in the top 13 to score fewer. As such, signing a playmaker could get the Cottagers firing in front of goal, and Palacios plays in the number 10 role.
Performances for RM Castilla	The starlet has already proven himself as a creative spark, albeit for RM Castilla, rather than the first team. In last season's Primera Federacion, he set up four goals, while also finding the net on 14 occasions.
Close relationship with Alvaro Arbeloa	It is important that Fulham back their new manager, and Arbeloa is known to have a close relationship with the Madrid youngster. Having spent time managing him at Madrid, the 43-year-old should know how to get the best out of Palacios, which may not be the case if the west Londoners were to sign a player from another club.

Fulham also major contenders to sign Lois Openda
 Improving the forward line is clearly a priority this summer, as Fulham have also stormed into contention to sign Juventus striker Lois Openda, emerging as serious contenders for his signature.

The Cottagers are able to offer a more attractive financial package than rival suitors Lyon, which means they are well-placed to win the race.

Arbeloa makes €60 million-rated Real Madrid forward his top priority at Fulham
According to MARCA, Fulham boss Alvaro Arbeloa has made Gonzalo Garcia his number one transfer target.

The Cottagers, now managed by the former Real Madrid head coach, are pushing hard to sign the striker and have moved close to meeting the Merengues' valuation of around €60 million.

As he begins his new project at Craven Cottage, Arbeloa has identified Gonzalo as the player he wants to build his team around.

Having worked closely with the forward during his time at Real Madrid, he is convinced of the striker's potential and is determined to bring him to west London.

Fulham are prepared to explore every possible option to complete the deal. One possibility is a deal involving 50% of the player's economic rights, a formula Real Madrid have previously used with academy graduates to retain a financial interest in their future.

Gonzalo tempted by the chance
The prospect of joining Fulham appeals to Gonzalo. At Craven Cottage, he would be offered the prominent role that has been difficult to secure at the Santiago Bernabeu.

He would also have the complete backing of a manager who has made him a central part of his plans. Moreover, reports suggest that he would be offered a lucrative contract.

For a player eager for regular football and a leading role, the opportunity is attractive, particularly given the challenge of competing with Kylian Mbappe for a starting place at Real Madrid.

From the Merengues' perspective, a significant transfer fee would also help finance the club's major spending on the proposed signings of Rodri and Yan Diomande.

Mourinho still considering keeping Gonzalo
Fulham's pursuit could yet be complicated by Gonzalo's impressive performances during pre-season.

His displays at Valdebebas, including finding the net in training games, have once again raised the possibility of him remaining at Real Madrid.

Just as he convinced Xabi Alonso during last summer's FIFA Club World Cup, Gonzalo has now impressed Jose Mourinho.

The Portuguese coach values him as a traditional centre-forward, a profile that is currently lacking elsewhere in the squad.

If Gonzalo continues to perform well during pre-season, Mourinho could ultimately decide that he is too valuable to let leave.

His future now depends on the delicate balance between Real Madrid's sporting plans and the financial opportunities presented by a potential transfer.

Fulham Close to £25m Deal for Trabzonspor Striker Paul Onuachu
Paul Onuachu is on the verge of completing a return to English football as Fulham prepare to finalize a transfer package valued between €25 million and €30 million (£21m–£25m) with Trabzonspor according to NTV Spor.

The 32-year-old Nigerian international striker has emerged as a priority attacking target for Marco Silva's side at Craven Cottage following a prolific career spell on the Black Sea coast.

Negotiation Breakdown and Asking Price
Trabzonspor's executive board established a strict policy regarding Onuachu's departure following interest from Europe and the Gulf region.

Fulham eye Toulouse's Charlie Cresswell
Fulham FC are reportedly interested in Toulouse FC's Charlie Cresswell (23), according to information from The Times.

Regarded as one of the club's most valuable players, the English defender could therefore be the subject of a transfer worth around €30m. The sum is slightly higher than what Stade Rennais – with whom Cresswell had an agreement – were prepared to pay to secure his services.

However, for Fulham to complete this deal, they will first need to secure a sale, whilst the departure of Joachim Andersen (30) appears to be on track. Should this matter drag on, Crystal Palace – who have also been linked with Cresswell – could also enter the fray, although the London club are already in advanced negotiations with other targets.

In any case, the departure of the Leeds United academy graduate from Fulham now seems inevitable, having already been on the verge of leaving during the last two transfer windows.

Diary of a Fulham FC journo from the Algarve
JK is out in Portugal and gives us the lowdown on Fulham's pre-season friendly vs Al-Ahli.

When the club confirmed that Fulham were going to be playing in Portugal this summer, I was sinking pints ahead of England's World Cup semi-final against Argentina.

I thought well, let's look at getting that booked up in the next couple of days, but for now my focus is on watching England attempt to reach their first World Cup final since 1966.

England exited the tournament later on that evening and I'll admit, my first thought was not 'right, time to book pre-season.' However, after a bit of soul searching and some much needed energy drinks, the idea did cross my mind once more.

Flights and accommodation booked, and it wasn't long until Monday 27 July arrived - time to head to Portugal. One of the quickest journeys to Gatwick I've ever made. I practically spawned there.

I enjoy travelling Scott Alone - it's a lot easier and peaceful. I was through security in a flash, had a quick bite to eat and played some frames of snooker on my phone whilst waiting for my flight's gate to be revealed.

We took off at 15:30 and several Football Cliches podcasts later, we had landed in Faro.

I settled into the hotel before heading out for some dinner. Nothing too crazy - a pint and a pizza. Food reviews as always can be read on my Patreon.

Anyways onto match day - Al-Ahli vs Fulham, a free event open to the public. I went for an early lunch before talking to Emma Jones for BBC Radio London. By then, there were a couple of reports coming out. Fulham are looking to go 'all out' for Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Garcia - more on him later.

Alan Nixon reported Fulham were 'getting closer' to the signing of Jordan James. The Standard then stated those reports were wide of the mark. I'd heard nothing regarding JJ on my end, but was fairly moved by our apparent interest.

I turned up to the stadium around two hours before kick-off. It was a bit of an awkward one - West London Sport had got in touch with some people in order to acquire a press pass, but we didn't hear back. I thought, well given it's a free event, what's the worst that can happen? If someone told me I shouldn't be in the press box, I could just tweet from my phone from the stands.

However, I took the Simon Wilson approach. Just act like you're meant to be there. After meeting some Fulham fans at the entrance and quickly realising people could just walk down the tunnel into the ground with no checks, I sauntered with confidence out towards the pitch. No issues. I located the press box, and headed towards there. It wasn't as easy to find as I first thought. It was like a maze and I was trying to navigate my way up to the top of the stand.

I eventually landed in the right place, after walking through the bar. Anyways, I was in, seated and ready to go. Staff members from Fulham turned up shortly after I'd settled, followed by the players. There were plenty of Fulham fans who'd made the trip too.

As the players emerged from the tunnel for the first time, a few came over to speak with fans, take photos and thank them for their support.

Team news dropped and Fulham went with a fairly strong starting XI. Macaulay Zepa's inclusion was interesting, starting over Kevin. Emile Smith Rowe and Josh King were also starting together. Tom Cairney was the only notable absentee. Luc De Fougerolles and Antonee Robinson were here, but not involved given they'd just returned from their extended holidays.

The game kicked off, and a first chance to see Alvaro Arbeloa's Fulham in action. It was noticeable immediately that Fulham were aggressive in their press and direct in their attacking play. Ryan Sessegnon was involved right from the start, attacking high up on the left hand side. Smith Rowe was offering him support, but slightly more central, wanting to receive the ball.

King was also floating in that central attacking area. Making runs into the box and trying to get on the end of things. On the right, Zepa was hugging the touchline, while Kenny Tete was tucking inside, almost drifting into midfield at times. It was an interesting watch.

It became apparent that whenever Fulham lost the ball, it would leave the two centre-backs exposed, with Harrison Reed sitting just in front. A few times Reed had to sweep away the danger, but there were a couple of times the ball was given away.

That's where Al-Ahli's goal came from. The ball was loose, Sessegnon was very high up, which left space at left-back. Fulham got across to defend the attack, but conceded from the corner. The ball was floated in and Fulham lost the aerial duel as the side from Saudi took the lead. It was a little weak, and too easy.

Up to that pout, Fulham had been the better side. They'd controlled the game and created a couple of openings. The best, falling for Rodrigo Muniz, whose header was well saved.

But Fulham levelled up after a nice move. Alex Iwobi, who had been quiet in the final third up until that point, found some space and slid it forward for Sess who arrowed a finish into the corner. Smartly taken and a first Fulham goal under Arbeloa.

In the second half, the game wasn't played quite at the same tempo. Benjamin Lecomte was called into action almost immediately with Fulham failing to deal with the danger at the back. He made a good save moments after coming on for Bernd Leno.

Fulham made around 11 changes in total. It was a great chance to see some U21s players play with the first-team. Farhaan Ali Wahid, Alfie White, Chibby Nwoko, Sam Amissah, Matt Dibley-Dias and Luke Harris all got some minutes.

Jonah Kusi-Asare impressed with his cameo. He showed tenacity and determination to chase down every ball. In doing so, he won a couple of free-kicks in good areas. Kevin failed to make much of an impact on the left, he had a free-kick effort sail wide.

It was a shame Fulham couldn't push on and find a winning goal, but it was a good run-out on a dry looking pitch. Good news - no injuries. Cairney, Jedi and LDF were sat a few yards away from me, watching from the stands. TC took lots of photos with fans at HT, I never found out why he wasn't involved, but he didn't seem to be moving gingerly, which is good.

After the game, I made my way down to pitch side. The vibes were good, lots of fans asking for photos and autographs and the Fulham players were happy to thank the travelling support. Really lovely to see, and a good way to end the friendly!

I managed to grab a couple of players for some post-match reaction. It was good to get back into the swing of things. I also watched AA's post-match interview with the club, and met the new head coach. He was very nice, and it was great to introduce myself. We will hear more from the Fulham manager soon I'm sure.

So, a very enjoyable evening, but time to get some dinner. I found a popular looking pizza restaurant/takeaway outlet and given it seemed the only option close by, went for another pizza. As I picked up my box, and headed out. I couldn't get a Uber, due to high demand. No worries, I'll go back into the restaurant and just tuck in.

However, suddenly the news was dropping. It was being reported from tier one journalist Mateo Moretto that Fulham and Real Madrid were close to an agreement for Cesar Palacios. A midfielder that Fulham have had their eye on for a while.

Moments later, more news emerged of a verbal offer from Fulham to Real Madrid for Gonzalo Garcia. We will see how this one materialises across the next couple of days, but Fulham seem to be attempting to accelerate these deals.

The Times have also reported that Fulham are interested in Toulouse centre-back Charlie Cresswell. But, in order to do the deal, Fulham may need to sell Joachim Andersen. Like always, plenty of rumours, will we see these deals get done?

Fulham 'Confident' On Double Swoop
Fulham are 'confident' they can sign both Cesar Palacios and Gonzalo Garcia this summer, with the pair keen to play in the Premier League under Alvaro Arbeloa.

Following a respectable campaign, Fulham are set to start a new era under Spanish manager Alvaro Arbeloa, who has signed a three-year contract with the Craven Cottage side, replacing Marco Silva.

Before moving to England, Arbeloa became head coach of Real Madrid during the second half of last season, replacing Xabi Alonso.

The Spaniard is now looking to reunite with Real Madrid youngsters Garcia and Palacios at Fulham.

According to Fulham insider Jack Kelly, the Cottagers are 'confident' they can sign both Palacios and Garcia, who are keen to play in the Premier League under Arbeloa.

Garcia had a much more prominent season among the two as the striker established his reputation as a dependable attacking option from the bench, making 39 appearances for Real Madrid in all competitions last season, while scoring eight goals and providing three assists.

Palacios got promoted to the first team towards the end of the last season and made only five appearances for Los Blancos from the bench.

It remains to be seen whether Fulham are able to secure the signatures of the two Spanish youngsters, but they are feeling confident about doing so.

With the summer transfer window in full swing, the Cottagers will also be looking to make more quality signings that can immediately bolster the squad.

Fulham have been linked with Chibuike Nwaiwu for some time, but could face competition from Tottenham Hotspur for the Trabzonspor star.

The Cottagers have also been credited with wanting to sign Rennes midfielder Jordan James, but it has now been claimed the Craven Cottage outfit have no interest in signing him.

That news has boosted Crystal Palace's hopes of signing the midfielder.

However, Fulham could yet revise their stance and enter the race if no deal for James is agreed quickly.

Fulham make progress in talks to sign Gonzalo Garcia, Cesar Palacios
Fulham are continuing to reshape their squad under new head coach Alvaro Arbeloa, with the club placing a strong emphasis on recruiting young players capable of developing into long-term Premier League stars.

However, Garcia is understood to prioritise regular football and is open to leaving the Santiago Bernabeu if it guarantees consistent playing time. Fulham are discussing a deal structure that would satisfy all parties, with Real Madrid expected to insist on a buy-back clause or similar mechanism to retain long-term control over one of their brightest academy products.

Palacios race complicated by Como interest
Fulham are also advancing discussions over highly rated midfielder Cesar Palacios. Real Madrid are expected to seek similar contractual protections should the youngster leave, ensuring they maintain influence over his future development.

The strongest competition comes from Serie A side Como, as Cesc Fabregas has identified Palacios as one of his priority transfer targets. The high-flying Italian club's excellent relationship with Real Madrid, strengthened through previous agreements involving Jacobo Ramón and Nico Paz, could make them formidable rivals in the race.

Even so, Fulham believe they possess an important advantage, as Arbeloa's close relationship with Palacios, developed during their years together at Real Madrid's academy, is viewed as a significant factor. The Fulham manager has outlined a clear pathway into first-team football for both players, something the club hopes will ultimately persuade the duo to choose Craven Cottage.

This transfer strategy reflects exactly what Fulham should be doing under Alvaro Arbeloa. Rather than competing for established stars, the club are targeting elite young talent with whom the manager already has trusted relationships.

Garcia appears to be the more achievable signing if Real Madrid accept that regular football is best for his development, while Palacios may prove a tougher battle because of Como's close ties with the Spanish giants. Agent meets with Sunderland and Fulham – Interesting signing presented
Matias Soule's AS Roma future has been uncertain for weeks and talks have now intensified with Sunderland and Fulham.

The Argentine was one of the candidates to leave the Giallorossi in June. Back then, Roma were facing issues around FFP and needed sales to earn capital gains.

That is when Sport Witness closely covered interest from Aston Villa. Unai Emery's side made initial contact for the attacker but never made a formal move.

After weeks of relative silence, Soule's situation is being talked about again, with Sunderland and Fulham in the mix.

Initial discussions held
Today's TuttoSport reports Soule's future is one of the 'hottest topics' at Roma. His exit will earn the Giallorossi a capital gain, which will help them make more signings this summer, with another attacker needed.

Soule's agent Martin Guastadisegno is exploring the market for clubs. This has led to him meeting both Sunderland and Fulham and talks have intensified.

No formal offers have been made at this stage.

Juventus will get a cut of any fee. They sold Soule to Roma in 2024 and have a 10% sell-on clause on whatever capital gain Gian Piero Gasperini's side earn from the sale.

If Sunderland or Fulham seal a deal for €35m, Roma will earn around €20m as a capital gain.

Gasperini feels the versatile attacker is a sellable. He wasn't too impressed with how he performed in the second half of lasts season and feels the club can upgrade on him this summer.

The manager not being convinced shouldn't be a huge ref flag, with Gasperini known for being tough on players.

Our take: Big chance for the two clubs
Soule can play across the attack, apart from the striker's role. He has showed that at Juve, Roma and also during a loan at Frosinone. He boasts a reliable 1v1 ability and loves to cut inside when he is playing on the right.

Some of his best Roma performances have come in the Europa League.

At 23, his best is yet to come and the two clubs should make in-roads over a deal.

Fulham target Nwaiwu back on Crystal Palace radar as Matsima talks end
Trabzonspor defender Chibuke Nwaiwu has emerged as a potential target for Crystal Palace once again after the Premier League club abandoned their pursuit of Augsburg centre-back Chrislain Matsima, according to Sky Sports UK.

The Eagles had appeared to be closing in on Matsima, with reports suggesting an agreement between the clubs was within reach and Augsburg set to receive a transfer fee in the region of €30 million.

However, the deal has now collapsed after Palace pulled out of negotiations over Augsburg's valuation of the French defender.

The breakdown in talks means Palace are expected to revisit alternative defensive targets as they continue their search for reinforcements following Marc Guéhi's departure to Manchester City earlier this year, and Maxence Lacroix's proposed move to Chelsea.

Among the centre-backs on the club's shortlist are Nigeria international Nwaiwu, who is also attracting interest from Fulham, Toulouse's Charlie Cresswell and Lyon's Ruben Kluivert.

Nwaiwu joined Trabzonspor during the winter transfer window, signing a contract until June 2030, and quickly established himself as an important figure at the Turkish club.

The 23-year-old registered three goals and one assist in 23 appearances for Trabzonspor in the second half of last season.

The next few days will be very busy for Real Madrid, as they look to continue finalising deals before the start of the 2026-27 season. They are closing in on Yan Diomande, while a deal for Rodri is also being worked on – and this is also the case with exits, with multiple players expected to depart before the transfer window closes.

Two of those players look set to reunite with Alvaro Arbeloa at Fulham. In the last couple of weeks, the Premier League side have registered their interest in Cesar Palacios and Gonzalo Garcia, and after talks with Real Madrid were opened earlier this week, it's now been reported by Ramon Alvarez de Mon that an agreement to take both players to Craven Cottage is close.

Palacios was always expected to leave this summer as he was not in Jose Mourinho's plans for the upcoming season, especially as he is too good to go back to Castilla. Serie A side Como have also been after him, although it does appear that he will continue his career in the Premier League with Arbeloa and Fulham.

However, it is the Gonzalo agreement that is more advanced at this stage. Upon being announced as Fulham's manager earlier this month, Arbeloa quickly made the striker one of his leading targets, and despite Mourinho asking Real Madrid not to sell him this summer, an agreement to take him to London is on the verge of being agreed.

It will be interesting to see how much Real Madrid end up making from selling Palacios and Gonzalo. It won't be as much as supporters hope, although that will be offset by the fact that significant sell-on and/or buy-back clauses will be included in the agreements with Fulham, as has been the case with numerous La Fabrica talents that have left in recent years.

'Open to Fulham's offer' – Player leaning towards signing for London club
Real Madrid youngster Gonzalo Garcia is open to a proposal from Fulham but is waiting for the club to hold successful negotiations.

COPE report on the situation around him and other Real Madrid business today. According to their information, Fulham have a chance of getting the 22-year-old this summer.

The outlet explains that Real Madrid need to make space in their squad if they are to complete the signings of Yan Diomande and Rodri in the coming weeks. They have no space in the squad at present, with all 25 spaces filled.

The problem is that while the process of moving players out is underway, it is taking a long time to execute. Gonzalo Garcia is one of the names on the list of players are 'most likely to leave'.

He is currently being targeted by Fulham, and former manger Alvaro Arbeloa. Sport Witness have covered various reports on their efforts to bring the youngster to Craven Cottage.

Indeed, Sport Witness covered a report yesterday explaining that Jose Mourinho had sanctioned a departure for Gonzalo this summer. That was seen as the green light for Fulham, who were expected to step up their efforts.

Palacios made his senior debut for Real Madrid last season, playing seven games in all competitions, including two appearances in the Champions League.

Garcia, meanwhile, broke into Real Madrid's first team during last summer's Club World Cup, scoring four goals in six appearances as Los Blancos reached the semi-finals.

Promoted to La Liga via the Play-Offs last season, Málaga will host us at their Estadio La Rosaleda in Andalusia.

Fulham are looking to tie up the signings of Real Madrid duo Cesar Palacios and Gonzalo Garcia.

Ryan Sessegnon says Fulham players are keen for the club to add new signings to the squad.

The left-back scored in a 1-1 draw with Al-Ahli in a pre-season friendly in Albufeira, Portugal, on Tuesday.

Aside from Jonah Kusi-Asare joining permanently after his loan spell last season, the Whites have not made a signing so far this summer – although they are looking to complete deals to bring in Cesar Palacios and Gonzalo Garcia from new boss Alvaro Arbeloa's former club Real Madrid.

Sessegnon said: "We're still hoping for some new signings to come and help the team. Still waiting for a few players as well to come back.

"Other than that, the team's moving well. We have to just keep pushing.

"It was good to score , but ultimately we didn't win the game, so I was a little bit disappointed with that.

"But still, pre-season, good minutes under the belt, and we have to keep going."

Josh King, meanwhile, is preparing for his second season as a first-team player.

King, 19, was involved in England's training camp for the World Cup in an "incredible summer" for the Fulham youngster, who made 38 appearances last term.

His target is to build on that during the upcoming campaign.

"Just to integrate myself more into the team and into the league and sort of just show more of what I can do," said King.

"I think there were definitely good glimpses of it last year, but I just want to build from last season, a few more goals and do well for the team.

"It was an incredible summer. The experience I got from that was unbelievable. I was really grateful for that.
