Our League Cup defeat against Brentford in October 2020 had a front 3 of Knockaert, Kamara & Kebano.

No wonder we were Knackered

If we are going to have the Spaniard up top, I might have a preference for Maximus Decimus Meridius. Not many would stop him.

I knew Marcus Aurelius would stop him

I vote in favour of not buying Garcia but someone named Stuart or Stu so we can have Kevin Bob(b) and Stu

I suppose as the Emperor he could have but didn't. Commodus did of course but he was just a little s**t.  ::wink::

Quote from: Claireffcw on July 30, 2026, 11:31:46 AMHe'll be great , dont think the fee is as high as 70m€ .Madrid get first refusal if we sell & maybe a % sell on

Over hyped and over rated. We have no idea what he will be like come a wet, windy midweek match in November in Coventry.

7 million more like.

Why do you think he will be "great" ?? On what evidence?? The Premier League is not the Spanish La Liga where players get about 15 seconds on the ball (or more) before being shut down.

Quote from: bencher on July 30, 2026, 02:23:21 PMI like that in the comments on YT someone described him as reminiscent of Benzema. Exactly what we need.

Benzema??? Really??? I am trying not to laugh....ooops....too late

No-one knows, anyone who says they will or won't is speculating and getting ahead of themselves.

But..

Do and can Spanish players come to the PL adapt quickly and do well? Of course.

The jump up tends to be the making or breaking of academy players to senior level.

Ideally you want at least 2-3 seasons of regular football to get guarantees of a players qualities and ability to adapt as well as be able to analyse them..

But once that's done, realistically if they're brilliant then they're well out of Fulhams reach.

This is essentially the position we're in. We have to take riskier bets earlier to get ahead of possible price hikes.

Do all Madrid academy graduates go on to have professional careers? Who knows. I'm sure there's literature on it somewhere.

What it feels like we're banking on is Arbeloa knowing what it takes to be a high performing player, and knowing both leagues and their demands. In addition to those, we're also banking on him recognising talent (he's played with some of the very best players of an era at club and national level), and his relationships with the players in question and belief he can get the best out of them.

It feels like it could go two or three ways..

The best case scenario is in Garcia and Pitarch we end up signing the next Spanish starting striker and Pedri.

Middle case is that they do well, are solid players for us chipping in with the odd goals and assists but never set the world alight.

Worst case is Arbeloa's brand of football doesn't work with the squad we've got, he goes by December, or stays the season and we get relegated and the players either become dead weight because they lose interest or aren't good enough.

Those are the three main scenarios.

As a club we're perhaps slightly overindexing on going for them because it comes at a time where our ownership believe our next developmental step as a club is to double down on exceptional young talent.

Kevin, King, sess, Bobb are the start of that. All of whom came to the first team via different routes.. Kevin came with the most senior professional experience.

Garcia, and pitarch have played for real's first team, and with varying amount of game time, held their own.. how much of that was them vs the wider squad they played in at real madrid first team, is the key bit.. but to play as a forward at Madrid requires results. Similarly as a CM/DM.

Pitarch played in 10 games for Real at the back end of last season and real lost 3, one of which was vs Barcelona, but he also played in a win vs Athletico Madrid. They'd lost a similar amount throughout the whole season before. Is that because of him? Part to tactics? Other young players being tested too? We don't know but Arbeloa seems pretty confident he can do more with these three players.

Bobb had similar game time at city, and whilst he hasn't scored yet, he's undoubtedly got talent.. he's probably the most realistic comparison

Despite previous interest in #AZ striker Troy Parrott, I understand that #FFC are not looking to sign him this summer and there has been no indication a move will be made.

Fulham are on the verge of Announcing Gonzalo Garcia as their new striker. 🇪🇸

Is there a reason you act all self-righteous with your posts? Given how you needed people on here to contribute to your book which you then endlessly tried flogging to us before the mods had to step in, I'd have thought you might have been more courteous to other opinions rather than being straight up rude
