Stamp it out or unjustified criticism!

Was listening to Graham Scott former referee on the wireless this afternoon and he mentioned the reputation Josh King is getting when it comes to simulation. He went on to talk about the couple of times last season and the incident yesterday against Manchester United. Will be in most referees little black book now? Never easy listening when talking about one of your own players let alone a talented youngster but neither can you turn a blind eye if it continues. Don't think I've read one report or heard anyone say should have been a penalty yesterday plus Kings reaction was not totally convincing?
Contentious Var one could go against us? Is there an argument his frame makes it more difficult at times to stay on his feet especially the physical challenge or am I making an excuse for him?

The other point he made was Arbeloa's remarks about they won't want Utd to lose and refs favouring them though he did try to reign that back in later. Scott said this is frown upon within the referee's fraternity? It's the worst accusation thrown at officials.
You would imagine a hefty fine coming our managers way with a disrepute charge!

Last thing we need currently is to think there might be a conspiracy against us?

I thought it was outside the box in any case. But Maguire's arm did go across him and there was a tug, and definite contact. But was it enough to bring him down? Was it "sufficient force" for it to be a foul? And if he went down too easily, should that be a yellow card?

It happened a bit later somewhere near the halfway line, but the Utd player went down far too easily with ridiculous drama from a minor shove by a Fulham player. The opposite happened .. the ref gave the foul. In that context it was certainly unfair.

It's tough for refs to be consistent, and yesterday Bankes fell short of the mark.

PS Interestingly on MoTD Jonathon Pierce (not the best of commentators it must be said) initially said Maguire was going to get a yellow. He clearly thought it was a foul initially.

Interesting that the previous week against Liverpool, when Allison took him out, the commentator was saying that if he'd gone down more dramatically, it would have been a penalty.

Did he also mention Josh electing to not make a meal out of it when he could have vs the Liverpool keeper? If he did, we would've gotten a pen.

Every single striker in the Premier league is diving to win free kicks, I see it week in week out they initiate the contact with the defender then throw themselves on the floor and the stupid officials buy it and that's why it's so bad now. Josh is just not as good at it due to experience. When it comes to Arsenal the whole teams doing it.

last season definitely a penalty against Aston Villa, not given
Definitely scored against Chelsea, not given.
No Fan i have ever spoken too has gone to
a game to watch a Ref.
do your job and zip it clowns.

I thought the ref was part of the "Harry Maguire Fan Club" they way he allowed this veteran version of a once top defender to get away with it. Made me almost glad the German coward left him out the WC squad.

Fulham are not permitted to have a player who goes down when he is fouled, unlike the entire Arsenal squad, most of Chelsea and John McGinn!
Nick Bateman "knows his footie"

Former Referee trying to infer that a 19 year old
is a cheat and Referees will put him in their little black books,
are the remarks of a cretin.

Andrew

It was foul in my opinion as was evidenced by Harry moving across to check King... at the other end it would be a foul and potential red card because Harry was the last defender.

alfie

I'm not going to moan about it, when you consider Bassey does that and worse and gets away with it.

Sadly she wasn't

Does anyone have a clip of this incident? I don't think it was in the highlights and I didn't see the full match.

I think this sums up the officials, why should a player get a reputation isn't the ref supposed to give what he sees and not what he sees and what he may have done in previous games, on the day to me it looked soft (from my vantage point in H5) the highlights on motd made it look more of a foul, I don't think Josh dived but he did ho down a little easily then again so did Maguire when he got a slight hand on his back in the 2nd half, so did Josh get a card because it could have lead to a chance at goal whilst Maguire was in possession holding off a forward?
From memory Josh got 2 yellows last year one at villa park and another in a home game for simulation I think on both occasions there was contact and it seemed the ref was quick to dish out a card, which I think was not warranted, neither was I convinced that the challenges should have resulted in a penalty.
Hopefully Graham Scott is wrong as we don't want him becoming a modern day Boa who did like taking a tumble or instigating contact found when he was fouled/hacked down by Sol Campbell on more than one occasion we didn't get the decision.

yes I so agree , but he must be very good at it , I sit level with the pen area Putney end albeit towards th back but I thought it was a trip . And I was a referee for 7 years way back . I'm happy to take your word for it .

What was Maguire's arm doing in an unnatural position if the intention wasn't to foul?
