Manchester United's interest is growing in Fulham's 26-year-old Nigeria defender Calvin Bassey. (Teamtalk)

not surprised by this hes been playing well. Important for us not to loose him.

Woolly Mammoth

That's one bloke we must hang on to.
Its not the man in the fight, it's the fight in the man.  🐘

Never forget your Roots.

@jolslover

Bassey is IMO our best player. Great job from TK signing him after an average first year at Ajax.

Must get him tied down ASAP or sell at the end of the season for 100m, we already need to sell Anderson and I cannot see Cuenca wanting to stay. We need to bring back Luc as back up to Affengruber and find a back up for Calvin.

alfie

If we continue to flirt with relegation then he might well want to go, we can only keep him if he wants to stay, asi understand he is happy at the moment, but if things don't change then...........
Story of my life

Sadly she wasn't

Shouldn't sell him at any price, and I wouldn't say that about anyone else in our squad,
And here's my reason why, his personality in the dressing room is invaluable, we have a very quiet dressing room and it's only Bassey (in particular) Iwobi and Muniz that have got any kind of spark or personality, the rest of the squad are all quiet like Smith-Rowe,
Bassey is a natural leader,if we stay up we must move heaven and earth to keep him, but if we go down then he's the first out of the door.

Money talks, big enough cheque for us and Calvin he will be gone.

Selling Bassey would be a huge mistanke and could easily get us relegated. He's one of our 2-3 best players and our best defender.

Unfortunately, if there's any truth in this and he wants this move, I'm not sure we can realistically prevent it from happening. Players have too much power these days, even when they're under contract.

I hope he is smart enough to not want a move to that basket case of a club, but if the money is good I fear he could do it anyway... Let's face it, most players would.

I imagine Utd are looking at every player in the premier league who shows a bit of spirit because none of their current squad do.

I Ronic

Bassey could walk into any team and improve it.
If he does feel it's time to move on and I pray that's no time soon, I hope its to one of Europes elite clubs.

Here we go again. The club get an opportunity to make profit on an asset to reinvest and the fans have a hissy fit 'not at any price' 'this will get us relegated'.

On the contrary, in my opinion what will get us relegated is not selling when we have the opportunity to. The FFP landscape requires us to to be competitive and have funds to reinvest.

'Rodrigo muniz, we want you to stay', Robinson - we have been here before. If we got 100m for bassey i would drive him myself for the good of the club

demeant0r

The only reason I'd think we'd sell him is if we got offered close to 80m-100m

Teamtalk is just SEO digital clickbait. People share it and it does it's job. Look through their stories and you'll see it's all quantity over quality and they're as correct as a broken clock.

Understand the prospect of losing Bassey is a valid point of concern, but wouldn't pay any mind to the validity of this story from someone who doesn't deserve to be called a journalist.

First State

Maybe we can rekindle their interest in Robinson 😉, but we're definitely not parting with Bassey.

I'd only sell them Bassey if it were an absolute pants-pulling.

I totally agree that we need to be a selling club to be competetive at this level for the long term. Especially when it comes to younger players and players from our own academy. The timing needs to be right, and we do have a history of missing out on potentially large transfer fees because we've held on to players for too long. We absolutely need to be more clever in the transfer market.

In retrospect, Muniz should have been sold when we got a decent offer for him. I totally agree with you on this now, but I have to admit I was 100% against selling him at the time. I had extremely high hopes for Muniz, but opinions have always been divided and it looks like I will have to admit I was wrong about his potential. I still think the raw talent is there, but he doesn't seem to have the mentality, the hunger or the work rate to succeed as a striker at this level.

Robinson? Did we ever get an actual offer for him? I never believed any of the rumours about bigger clubs taking an interest. For one thing, the sources for these rumours were never reliable, but more importantly I can't see any of the big clubs being interested in a player with Robinson's rather obvious and extreme weaknesses. If there had been an actual offer, I totally agree with you though. We should have sold him if any half decent offer had been made, but as far as I know we've never had a single actual offer for Robinson.

But Bassey... That's different. In my opinion he's the best CB we've had since Hughes/Hangeland. He is currently one of our 2-3 best players and a key player in a season that has a smell of potential relegation.

To get rid of our best defender in a season like this would be utter madness in my opinion.

This is of course based on the fact that 100m for Bassey is currently pure fantasy. I can't see that happening. If we do get an offer of 100m I will reconsider, but until an offer like that is on the table, selling Bassey would be madness IMO.

Then again, the way ManU is being run they might actually be stupid enough to pay 100m for Bassey. That's not meant as a critisism of Bassey btw. He's one my favorite players, and one of our key players. But paying 100m for ANY centre back would be utterly insane! Unless such an offer is actually made I think we should base this discussion on more realistic transfer fees. With a more realistic transfer fee in mind I personally think that in our current situation the benefit of keeping Bassey far outweighs the benefit of selling him.
