Once more unto the breach, dear friends, once more;
Or close the wall up with our English dead.
In peace there's nothing so becomes a man
As modest stillness and humility:
But when the blast of war blows in our ears,
Then imitate the action of the tiger;
Stiffen the sinews, summon up the blood,
Disguise fair nature with hard-favour'd rage;
Then lend the eye a terrible aspect;
Let pry through the portage of the head
Like the brass cannon; let the brow o'erwhelm it
As fearfully as doth a galled rock
O'erhang and jutty his confounded base,
Swill'd with the wild and wasteful ocean.
Now set the teeth and stretch the nostril wide,
Hold hard the breath and bend up every spirit
To his full height. On, on, you noblest English.
Whose blood is fet from fathers of war-proof!
Fathers that, like so many Alexanders,
Have in these parts from morn till even fought
And sheathed their swords for lack of argument:
Dishonour not your mothers; now attest
That those whom you call'd fathers did beget you.
Be copy now to men of grosser blood,
And teach them how to war. And you, good yeoman,
Whose limbs were made in England, show us here
The mettle of your pasture; let us swear
That you are worth your breeding; which I doubt not;
For there is none of you so mean and base,
That hath not noble lustre in your eyes.
I see you stand like greyhounds in the slips,
Straining upon the start. The game's afoot:
Follow your spirit, and upon this charge
Cry 'God for Harry, England, and Saint George!

Cheers Syd - that never fails to make the hairs on the back of my neck stand up, and bring a lump to my throat.  :Sparkyticus:

And this year the census will allow you to state that you are English. It'll save me ticking 'Other' and writing it in large capitals again.
"Do not affix anything to this wall" - sign that was affixed to wall above turnstiles at Hammy end before someone with a clipboard replaced it with a large Fire Exit sign.

I filled in a job appliction form on Wednesday, ok it was only for an angency, but  it asked for nationality rather than tick White British, so i wrote English. If it had been a proper job and the option was there i'd have put white British, but that's bollocks, why should i put that? i'm English (with a bit of padddy), not British. In fact i'm a londoner not English (sorry Syd) , infact i'm a West londonder (ok sort of NW suberbs) , i'm not a Cockney, i;m not Sarf London. GRRRRRRR

WTF has "the Red, White and Blue" or the "Union Jack flag" got to do with England?

Surely that is a British thing, not an English thing.  If you are going to be nationalist at least sort which nation you are supporting...

Lord grant that Marshal Wade
May by thy mighty aid
Victory bring
May he sedition hush
And like a torrent rush
Rebellious Scots to crush
God save the Queen

Don't suppose we will hear this verse on 13th March at Twickers....

...but Edward, we will be subjected to Flower of Scotland:-

O flower of Scotland
When will we see your like again
That fought and died for
Your wee bit hill and glen
And stood against him
Proud Edward's army
And sent him homeward
Tae think again

etc.,

In the National Anthem we refer to Wade crushing a rebellion of 250 years ago, our pictish cousins refer back to the battle of Bannockburn nearly 700 years ago in a modern song.

Anyway, no worries, looking forward to the game, and if the French are right, and we are the most hated nation in rugby so be it, mais il ne sonne comme la paille et la poutre noir..!

As a Fulham fan it is only right to have this.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope
