Yes, but it was a pinball machine in there. There wasn't a lot he could do.

It's interesting about Smalling. When's the last time we transferred someone to a top-4 club and they got more pitch time there than they would have if they'd stayed. The young lad's game has really matured. He's making himself available to EVDS as a good first step out of defense, and many of his passes are one-touchers over distance. I've seen a couple of matches where he's been man marking a lot of the time and he does well. He's still a bit unsure going forward, but he's had a brilliant season, with a lot more pitch time than I'd have predicted.

I think before it's all through that he'll replace the asshole down the road in the England team and have a brilliant career. Good lad.
