a couple of weeks ago i posted about a local team Cockhill Celtic who beat premiership team Galway Utd 3-1 on there own turf.
Today saw them host another premiership team Sligo rovers in the 2nd round of the league cup.
A record crowd of 2500 turned up in Buncrana to cheer on the local lads but that bit of class and fitness proved just too much for the home side.
After a lively opening Sligo went 1-0 through Joseph Ndo (Cameroon international),Cockhill hang on to keep that score at halftime.
Second half Cockhill began to press and had many half chances but were caught on the break by a well taken header by there lively number 9.
There was then a 15/20 minute spell when the boys could and should of put themselves back into the game but as time went on,legs got tired and Sligo scored 2 more late on.
Overall the young lads put on a good show and can be proud of thier exploits in thier first ever jaunt into the league cup.

Final score Cockhill Celtic 0 Sligo Rovers 4

Must have been a great atmosphere up there and ironic they pulled in a bigger crowd than Harps can manage in Ballybofey!  An inspiring story alright with several players travelling back ridiculous distances for games and training and paying subs to play - brilliant.  Down here in County Cork we don't hear to much about them but don't they have a potential Olympic boxer playing for them?  The gate receipts will be very welcome I'd imagine - well done.

They do indeed young William McLaughlin,a nice down to earth kid you wish to meet.......Problem with the olympics is that although he holds Ulster/National and European titles,he is not from Dublin and when matters he has had some dreadful decisions from Irish judges in favour of thier boy John Joyce??................He played very well at leftback yesterday as well.

Maybe they can set up a "friendly" against Wolves in the off season and your lad can do a number on Karl Henry?
