I am surprised not to see any of John Paintsil's on the list. They were all spectacular.  090.gif
Serious question, how many points did he cost us with those 3 own goals?
The one that stands out to me was the 1-0 loss at Anfield in King Kenny's first match back as manager.

That was the only one that came to my mind  as well finnster. So at least 1 point so far.

Villa, 2-2 - so another 2 pts.

Blackpool, 2-2 - 2pts
So that is a total of 5 points. That means he cost us one place in the table. We would have finished 7th instead of 8th.

Not sure I agree with that.

For me, it's a bit like saying that Dempsey has cost us two points for that penalty miss against Chelsea. You have to add everything up - goals, own goals, clearances, the lot.

finnster01

I agree with you Mr IW, you can't really think like that.

However, what on earth was he possibly thinking on the Liverpool one?

They have removed it from YouTube but I am still struggling to figure out how that could happen

All im saying is if you take away his own goals, we would have had 5 more points and would have finished in 7th place. How can you disagree with facts?

I'm not disagreeing with those facts, just sayin' that you need to think about some other facts too. How many points has Paintsil gained for us this season by useful tackles, clearances, blocks, etc? - He's played in nine of our clean sheets this season.

@Finn - Unlucky mistake for the Liverpool match (didn't he shin a clearance out of Stockdale's hands and into the goal?). If I remember rightly, that was the match when Gerrard was getting in his face every five minutes, it was a surprise Pantsil wasn't sent off. He seems like emotional lad to me, probably couldn't keep his mind on the game.

finnster01

No.
It came off the post and only for Pants to spectacularly arch it over Stockdale in the process of clearing (I guess)

But to be fair, I think you need to contra a number of goal line clearances where he saved goals for us.  Probably comes out overall as a minor deficit  :033:
