So this weekend I'm heading to my mates hometown of Kington in Herefordshire for the biggest thing to happen to the place each year: the annual wheelbarrow race.

http://www.kingtonfestival.co.uk/site/Kgala.html

You pair up with another person and a wheelbarrow, one pushes the other (switching as required) and you must stop at every pub in the town and have a half of ale. There are 9 pubs and the route is a couple of miles.

Some people take it seriously and run it, most dress in fancy costume and have a laugh, some of the "wheelbarrows" are works of art. Last years winner was a bicycle with a trailer that had a ZZ Top lookalike band on the back playing, with full drum kit. The theme for this year is "Europe", so my mate and I are dressing as Frenchmen.

The weekend is a laugh. The roads are closed off and the whole town comes out for it, and the party goes late into the night.

So what other regional festivals are there to recommend?

The Equalizer

Southern Sounds Festival on Clapham Common on saturday - seeing INXS play...
"We won't look back on this season with regret, but with pride. Because we won what many teams fail to win in a lifetime – an unprecedented degree of respect and support that saw British football fans unite and cheer on Fulham with heart." Mohammed Al Fayed, May 2010

Mannifest - just mainly local bands, alot of drug use there so tend to avoid..
"What in the hell is diversity?"
"Well, I could be wrong, but I believe diversity is an old, old wooden ship that was used during the Civil War era."

Burt

Thames Ditton Fest.

OK, only kidding, there isn't one of those.

But Hampton Court is just down the road and they have a shindig coming up with the mighty Simple Minds. Bring it on!

Fulham for life!

This show's been ongoing for only the past 4 or 5 years, but it is an overall quality outing - and it's in Golden Gate Park which is a sweet venue for shows, but not so easily accessible - especially when 50-100K decide to descend upon it simultaneously.  The wine offered is overpriced (bring your own), but some of the world's best nonetheless.

This sausage fest sounds a bit like SF's Castro district each day of the year, but I digress, Mr. FFC... 098.gif
