Subbuteo wars

Having just wacked on the magnificent Half Man Half Biscuit 'All I want for Christmas is a Dukla Prague away kit' on You Tube and being of nostalgic persuasion I wonder if any FOFer's recall altercations with siblings/peers over the green baize?

Many an argument ensued with the pitch being thrown in the air and interventions by angry parents trying to avoid subbuteo related violence.

So much better than Playstation though.

Any song that contains the immortal line 'and your travelling army of synthetic supporters would be taken away from you and thrown in the bin' deserves to be listened to before you die.

Genuinly recall a mate breaking off one of the figures arms to add authenticity to his Fulham team-Ronnie Goodlass was turning out for us at the time.

There were no hooliganism before Subbuteo was invented. Think about that  092.gif

I used to nick spare players from other boxes so i could have subs as i'm a right clumsy **** and kept kneeling on the players. Half my players were glued back together. The bendy keepers were crap weren't they?

I still remember a six I felt hit me high up on the arm as it was too quick for the eye. Farokh Engineer  of Lancashire was batting. Used to love the scoreboard. Now why can I remember that yet forget what I did two days ago?

Sorry Fred, the early Prelim rounds of the Europa cup are the gayest, most pointless, wear womens clothes when the wife is away game there is and that's reality. Subbuteo cricket at least had some point to it.  086.gif 075.gif :hook:

Not when you can use it as an excuse for a lads piss up abroad it aint. Some of the best laughs of my life have been on the Euro trips. Surely the gayest thing is moaning about a competetion we could only have dreamed about a few years back.Stop being such a scrooge and spend a few quid on living again.

Fair enough Fred. Except it is hardly a competition we could only dream about a few years ago. Blackpool nearly beat us do it this year. I will wait until the proper competition starts. Enjoy the piss up though. Getting in via the Fair Play league is still the gayest thing going.  :033:

I tell you one thing Mr Beamer, I went to Vilnius last time with my daughter. Probably the best away trip I have ever had in my life. No excessive drinking with mates but a great time to meet people and take in a beautiful city I most likely never would have visited without Fulham.  :54:

That in itself was worth it mate. She is 15 now. There will not be many times like this again, if ever.

Yep have to agree with you on getting in via the fair play but , i'll be going to some places i wouldn't have thought about going to, could be great could be crap, but with the right people you'll have a laugh anyhow. Come on Lighthouse make the effort this year, it'll make you feel alive again.

20% attendence because it's the most boring sport ever perhaps ?

Lighthouse

I used to go a lot to cricket matches. Went to Old Trafford to watch a couple of days of the Roses matches. Saw a few test matches there. I was supposed to be at school but took a few days out. You could talk to the players near the boundary. Have a laugh and a few beers.

Then watched Sussex when we moved. Not sure why we have to have limited over cricket to try and bring in the punters. I blame the loss of Cricket on main stream TV. Same as boxing. I am not going to care who these people are if I never see them.

Re Europa League, it's not how you get there; it's what you do when you get there that counts...

too true, I wonder what would have happened if MON had got the job instead of Jol?
