Martin Jol reveals Fulham loan plans

MARTIN Jol plans to send Fulham's fringe players out on loan rather than leave them sitting in the stands.

The new Whites boss has already offloaded South African midfielder Kagisho Dikgacoi to Crystal Palace on a permanent deal, while keeper David Stockdale is poised to go out on loan.

And the Dutchman has revealed he plans to ship out more of Fulham's youngsters in a bid  to get first-team football.

He said: "I feel if you are a young player you should play and there's a few young players here.

"So I feel we have to find opportunities for them to play, and that is what I did in Germany and Holland, and in England before.

"If you have a lot of youngsters who are probably not involved every week, I think you have to find a situation where they can play every week.

"So there will be a couple of players going out on loan. Hopefully I can send out 2-3 in Holland because that's a very good competition to play in for young players."

 A Loan Again - Naturally , very good, Gilbert o Sullivan ?

AlFayedsChequebook

I like the idea of some of the youngsters going to Holland to learn.

Hoesen is pretty nailed on to return to his homeland on loan then. Who else, Marsh-Brown perhaps?

Lighthouse

I do wish Jol would stop talking about players leaving ALL the time.  :012:

I know he went down well here in MK so wouldn't be surprised if he came back (Marsh Brown). Dalla Valle another one I guess

We still need players for our own games? Four competitions, hello?
Oh you lucky people, we're the best team in the land!

elgreenio

but what younger players are ready to step up? Briggs probably the only one in with a shout. we'll just rotate within the 'older' players

We play in 4 competitions, and still looking to offload players?! Still no singings?! Dikgacoi, Gera, Kamara, Gudjohnsen, E. Johnson, Stockdale, are already out (or will be out soon)! Come on, sign someone for god sake!

No hurry though.

Six weeks till our first league game. Jol needs to get it right, not rush things. If it was August 30th we'd be right to panic.

elgreenio

its early yet, really early, especially with Jol undoubtedly still getting to know the players. Guess we're more impatient because our season has started, but if we need new blood to beat the likes of NSI then we've no hope

But what's best, Jol assessing his squad and deciding what it lacks or just panic buy for the sake of buying? We're only five days into the transfer window - the signings will come.

We also have two players for every position:

GK: Schwarzer, Stockdale
RB: Baird, Kelly
LB: Sally, Briggs
CB: Hangeland, Senderos
CB: Hughes, Halliche
RM: Duff, Riise
LM: Davies, Dembele
CM: Sidwell, Etuhu
CM: Murphy, Greening
ST: Zamora, Dempsey
ST: Johnson, Dalle Valle

Not exactly that bad in terms of strength in depth and we have not added anyone at all yet. If we bring in some quality additions (which take time) then we will once again have a strong squad.

Lighthouse

I think our strength in depth looks awful at striker and Full back. Which is where we need to strengthen. Plus Greening is no central midfielder. Which is why we are linked to ....Keepers all the time.

We do have weaknesses, but I am just pointing out that we have a relatively solid line-up and backups. People make it sound like we have a skeleton squad when in actual fact we have got rid of many of the players who offered little/no value.

I agree. With a few good quality players coming in, in the right areas, we could have the best squad we have ever had.

This is the thing, we have a squad of solid professionals, and from this base we can introduce younger players gradually to re-infuse the squad with youth and set us up for the next 5 or so years.

Take note everyone! Lighthouse is feeling the positive effect of summer!

I think it is a smart move to loan some players to competitive sides abroad. I have seen it in Belgium where some loaned youngsters return considerably more armed to their own clubs after they have played a whole season in the first team of a "minor" side. A Belgian club hires some players from FC Porto and all of those youngsters have made an incredible evolution in their loan year, to the point that they are now member of the first team of FC Porto. Sure, it is only "FC Porto", the team who won the Europa League after a very dominant display in the knock-out stages. Manchester Utd used to stall some of its players in Antwerp FC and several of them are now regulars in the A squad of Man U. Fulham should do something similar.
No forum is complete without a silly Belgian participating!
