Jol Quote

Mr Fulham

"There is space in the squad after players like Zoltan Gera, John Paintsil and Diomansy Kamara left so there is space but certainly not up front."

WTF?!

TonyGilroy

I don't really care what he says. He may be misquoted, deliberately misleading, preoccupied, telling the truth, changing his mind.

What matters is what he does. At present he's clearing out squad members and assessing young players. If those squad players who leave aren't replaced then we're in trouble but I'd be surprised if that's Jol's intentions.

Riise's transfer took a few days to go through but his arrival wasn't picked up in transfer gossip or leaks beforehand so anything could be happening. I assume that there'll be a fair few signings in the next 7 weeks. I could of course be wrong but I certainly don't understand those who assume there won't be more signings.

what's happening with Bendtner?  I put a tenner on him coming to Fulham on the off chance...

I never understand people who think everything will turn out fine.It never does. People are worried that we had a great squad last season, but are well short this season. Players leaving, wanting to leave, being pushed means we have room for players coming in. Jol makes statements that are are confused and confusing. The one position we need more than anything is strength up front. Yet he says we are fine with Dembele and Dempsey , who can play there.

So I am sure everthing will come up roses and sunny delight and those cream chocky biscuit things. But so far, he says we are rubbish and cannot rest players, we did at Wimbledon and lost to them. But we are fine with two forwards.

Why say anything Jol. You confusing manager person.

As I've just mentioned on TIFF, this is the second time he has said that so presumably we won't be getting any strikers in? I hope I am wrong about this.

He does mention replacing the likes of Kamara and what was he if not a striker? I get the impression he may be looking for a more versatile pacey young winger rather than a "fox in the box" or a second target man. This addition would be good but we certainly need another striker. I suppose if AJ goes this would result in a new addition up front.

I don't think our current strike force is strong enough - AJ is no "fox in the box" and Moussa and Clint are not strikers even they both can score goals - I think Moussa could get a few more in the future but we need more out and out strikers - just one more would suit me!

I think that there will no doubt be other promising additions to the squad though.

There was some speculation yesterday that we're after a youngish swede who is much more a fox in the box type player. He's been scouted and chased by clubs in Holland for some time so it may make some sense.

I'd think it odd if we did go into this campaign with just the forwards we have, though maybe he thinks Dalla Valle is up to scratch. i had high hopes for him when he signed. Then again, I had high hopes for kelly Haag too...

MrWhite

Perhaps he's implying that AJ would need to be sold for us to sign another striker.

Not entirely impractical...

Any chance of getting this quote on a FOF teeshirt?

Must admit though I too am confused by some of Jol's pronouncements, and hope it's a case of broken English rather than cracked ideas.

Confushed? Schurely not. I guessch you are not dutsch

Perhaps he's desperately searching for a striker but the last thing that would help is for him to say so.

Bendtner's going somewhere but the clubs linked all deny it. They may be telling the truth or trying to put others off. Or maybe he's talking to a club that knows how to keep secrets.

We almost never sign players we're linked with and there is no good reason for Jol to discuss his business publicly.

That's for the big boys (and 'Arry) trying to unsettle a potential target.

BalDrick

As Mr Gilroy implies, the last thing to do should we be in the market for a striker is to alert the world's media to the fact. I want to think we'll be bringing in a decent amount of players of a calibre to compete for a place in the 1st XI immediately, but we've been here before.

General conclusion to draw every summer is avoid gossip and links, just get on with the rest of your life and hope things work themselves out by season start. Trouble is, is anyone sensible enough to do this?

I am sorry but  what is this ' rest of your life' you speak of.

He's already stated that with Zamora, Johnson, Dembele & Dempsey he can't go to the board asking for another striker (especially taking into account the wages of the first two).

This would suggest that he's either happy with what he's got, or more likely one will have to leave before another can come in. With speculation rife about AJ leaving, I would probably opt to believe the latter rather than the former.

For me Jol has not contradicted nor confused anything he's said whilst he's been manager. He stated he wanted a younger squad and has since let JP, Gera, Kamara & Zuberbuhler leave, is letting Greening go to Forest all whilst bringing in a keeper 14 years the junior of the outgoing one and has given first team appearances to three of our most promising youth in the very first two matches under his guidance. In my opinion he's so far stuck to every word.

We need to replace Eddie Johnson though!

On the Sirius Radio Show - "The Football Show"  Giorgio Chinaglia who is the host said that he "doesn't rate Jol as a manager at all". That Fulham's "only" goal is to stay up and they only win matches because "it is so hard to play at Craven Cottage".
"Fulham will be lucky to stay up this year with Jol as manager and roster......"

I am sorry but I am not familiar with Giorgio Chinaglia other than his name and his TV and radio spots. Does he have any credibility??? :023: :023: :023: :023: :023:
"You don't want to be trapped inside with me sunshine. Inside, I'm somebody nobody wants to love with do you understand?

Quills

Bear in the mind context though - maybe Jol felt better off saying this at the time rather than 'No, not Keane, I know I'm supposed to be a fan of his, but his wage demands are embarrassingly high and I don't want to sign him, and this is the best excuse I can think of.'

mangoputney

I'll be a lot happier when and if (big if) Jol actually replaces Paintsil (def cover) Gera (mid cover) and Kamara (surely the lad was a striker) and if poss as a bonus further bolsters the midfield if Greening wanders off...

hopefully he does do everything under the radar, but it aint half tiresome and stressful seeing no 'rumour' 'substantial' links each passing day and makes you wonder about this 'substantial' war chest

We aint relegation material, but it fair to say current prospects and moves made by our direct competition suggest were more 12th - 15th than 7th - 9th

New Jol quote: Asked after the game whether he would be active in the transfer market this summer, Jol said: "We're busy."

On Robbie Keane specifically, he added: "Robbie's a great player, but we've got great strikers here. I'm a big fan of Robbie."

Especially the first bit is promising.
