Fulham's latest summer signing, John Arne Riise, played for a Fulham XI against Stevenage on Sunday afternoon following his transfer to Craven Cottage earlier this week.

Fulham were beaten 1-0 by Stevenage, with Robin Shroot's 80th minute goal securing victory for the home side at The Lamex Stadium.

The Fulham fans that made the journey to Stevenage on Sunday were rewarded with the news that John Arne Riise had been named in Billy McKinlay's starting eleven. The Norwegian international played for 60 minutes.

McKinlay's side also featured First Team regulars Philippe Senderos, Steve Sidwell and Stephen Kelly, alongside a host of promising youngsters, including recent European debutants, Kerim Frei and Lauri Dalla Valle. Summer signing Tom Donegan was also named in McKinlay's starting eleven.

Speaking after the game Mckinlay highlighted the valuable match fitness the contest provided ahead of the 2011/12 season.

"It was obviously disappointing to lose the match because we dominated the game territorially and were defensively solid," McKinlay told fulhamfc.com. "However we were not sharp enough in the final third, but that will come with the work we will be doing over the coming weeks.

"Overall it was a good shift for the players and a good physical workout. The players who were not involved in Thursday's European game in Belfast saw action. They were supplemented by half a dozen younger players from our Development Squad.

"John Arne Riise also played 60 minutes today, which was always the plan. I know he's not done a great deal of training but he's up and running now."
