Gecov poised for Fulham talks

Slovan Liberec midfielder Marcel Gecov is flying to London to have a medical with Fulham, according to the player's agent.

Gecov has been linked with Sparta Prague, but Fulham boss Martin Jol looks to have won the race for the 23-year-old.

Gecov's agent, Jiri Muller, says Fulham will discuss personal terms with the former Czech Republic Under-21 international this week.

He said: "The clubs have been negotiating, so we will see how it turns out. Marcel is to undergo a medical and will have an interview with coach Jol."

Gecov started his career with Slavia Prague and has made 79 appearances in Czech Republic's top flight, scoring three times.

Marcel Gecov (born 1 January 1988 in Prague) is a Czech football player, who currently plays for the Czech Gambrinus liga side FC Slovan Liberec.
Gecov began his club career with Slavia Prague at the age of six. The young midfielder went through all the youth teams of Slavia. He was 17 years old when he was promoted to the A-team. Gecov didn't get a chance to make his debut in the Gambrinus liga for Slavia. In January 2007 Gecov was sent to SK Kladno on a loan for the rest of season.
Gecov made his debut in the Czech top flight in March 2007 against Tescoma Zlín. He started seventeen times for Kladno and scored one goal. In January 2008 Gecov signed a long-term contract lasting 3.5 years with FC Slovan Liberec.[1]

Gecov has represented his country at all age levels. He was also a part of the Czech squad at the 2007 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Canada where he played six matches and helped the team to its second place.He was member of the Czech under-21 team. He represented the team at the 2011 UEFA European Under-21 Football Championship. Gecov was also selected to all-star team of the tournament.

I personally watched the Under 21 Championships and he stood out, particularly in the game vs England. I didn't have a clue who he was until I saw a picture and recognised his face. He's a great defensive midfielder, will run around the park and make tackles, not the greatest attacking wise but indeed a very good player and a very good prospect, good spot here from Jol.
