Fulham midfielder Clint Dempsey has admitted that he could have been on his way to Arsenal in the summer transfer window, as exclusively revealed by Goal.com earlier this week.

The north London club enquired about the American following the departure of Cesc Fabregas and Samir Nasri, but shied away from Fulham's £10 million asking price, and instead signed Everton midfielder Mikel Arteta for that same amount as well as brining in Yossi Benayoun on loan from Chelsea.

Speaking to Goal.com on Friday, Dempsey said: "Yes there was interest from clubs, including Arsenal, but nothing materialised.

"I still have this season and one more at Fulham, and I'm looking forward to having another good season."

The American is off to a flying start with Fulham, scoring twice already in the Europa League and once in the Premier League. He should also reap the benefits from Fulham bringing in another creative attacking player in the form of Costa Rican Bryan Ruiz for £10.6m on deadline day.

10 million quid to spend. Dempsey over Arteta any day. Physically stronger, scores more goals. Although Arteta would be a nice replacrment for Murph.
Strange Arsenal thought CD wasn't worth 10. Probably right, more like 15. Wenger? 091.gif

We were lucky that Wenger prefers French/Spanish players.
