Portsmouth ready to name Sean O'Driscoll as new boss

Oct 30 2011 by Alan Nixon, The People

Portsmouth are ready to name Sean O'Driscoll as their new boss – after he made a secret spying mission to see them yesterday.

O'Driscoll was a surprise Pompey guest at the Derby County match, smuggled in away from the directors' box as the move came close to being sealed.

Highly-rated O'Driscoll has spoken to Fratton Park officials but wanted to have a close look at the side in action.

His reputation is still high despite leaving Doncaster Rovers with just one point a few weeks ago. He is also known in the south from his time at Bournemouth.

Potential

And the studious boss – ironically nicknamed Noisy – will give his answer soon after watching his potential new team.

O'Driscoll has emerged as the top target despite Pompey interest in former Manchester United legend Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a possible move for Burnley's Eddie Howe.

Pompey have been looking for a boss since Steve Cotterill quit for Nottingham Forest and landing O'Driscoll would allow caretaker Stuart Gray to make the same move.

O'Driscoll is a free agent and seems set to take up the challenge despite Pompey's small squad and with question marks about how much their Russian owners will pump into the budget.

...interesting, especially as I had heard from a Pompey pal that there was talk of Cookie and Lee Clark being in the frame!

Fulham brings something out in aspiring managers...

Sunday Times also reporting that the job is there for him.

Good luck if he does take it - it will be a challenge given the state Pompey are in.

Jack Fulham

Will be interesting to see how he does, Pompey have a wafer fin squad but at least he's finally got some decent players to work with. Must of been hard to attract good players to Doncaster.
