Grimsby Town: Scott relishing FA Cup showdown with Port Vale

Tuesday, November 01, 2011 Grimsby Telegraph

JOINT manager Rob Scott is looking forward to pitting his wits against his former Fulham boss Micky Adams when Grimsby Town travel to Port Vale in the FA Cup first round.

Scott was part of the Cottagers side that won promotion from the old Division Three in 1997 under Adams.

And he knows the Yorkshireman's Vale side pose a tough test for his and Paul Hurst's Mariners on Saturday week.

Scott said: "It will be difficult away against a decent League Two side.

"They played Rotherham a few weeks ago so I already have a DVD of that game to watch.

"But I know the manager (Adams) well from my days at Fulham and know his style of play is fairly direct.

"It's a tough one, but a chance for our lads to go there and compete and show they can play at the level of the league above, a bit like some of Ashington's players did against us in the last round."

Adams is also expecting a tough encounter against Town, but is thankful his side are the home side in round one.

He said: "I think everyone at the club is delighted with a home tie and I know Grimsby Town joint-manager Rob Scott very well.

"Rob was part of my team at Fulham when we won promotion from the old Division Two.

"He will bring a well organised and disciplined side to Vale Park, so we are anticipating a tough test."
