Fulham's old boys are not so Joli

By ANDREW DILLON

Published: Today

MARTIN JOL faces a fresh wave of dressing-room unrest as Fulham prepare for a nightmare month.

Several senior stars believe the boss is showing little faith in his existing squad.

Fulham face Liverpool tonight then Chelsea and Manchester United in a December period that will have a say in the club's Premier League fortunes.

One insider said: "It seems to some players as if Jol is not happy with anything they do.

"He arrived in the summer saying the age of the squad needed lowering and several players think he is putting all the problems on them rather than himself."

Fulham have won only once in the last six Premier League games and hover just two points above the drop zone.

FULHAM: Schwarzer; Kelly, Hangeland, Hughes, Riise; Kasami, Murphy, Etuhu, Dempsey; Zamora, Johnson.

Could say thats with good reason though, none of the old guard are really turning up and showing what they can do, for me, January can't come quick enough

Yes and no. Better the devil you know it might be said.

This season was always going to be very tough - mainly thanks to the fact neither of the previous managers have done jack about the ever increasing average age of the squad. Provided we manage to stay up, then we will be stronger and better next time round, but, without wishing to state the bleeding obvious, we really really need to start picking up some points soon, and the next few games don't really give one a lot of confidence do they?

You'd drop Etuhu and Murphy after quite possibly their 2 best performances in the league in over a year V Sunderland and Arsenal for a scrawny untested special one and a centre half???

Against Liverpool are you mad???

I expect this
Schwarzer

Riise, Hangeland, Hughes, Kelly/Baird

Murphy, Etuhu, Dempsey, Ruiz

Zamora Dembele

Has Jol actually said that Sidwell wont be available tonight? I didn't find any comments giving any clues about this.

Someone on TIFF said they saw him at an airport, not sure if today or over the weekend, or even if it's true.

He was on Twitter yesterday saying he was up at 4:15 so it makes sense he was at the airport early doors. Sounds like he may be flying out to see a specialist so maybe not as clear cut as 1st thought with his injury.

That sound ominous - I hope he doesn't need a second op.

The problem with this 'gag-order' is that it allows the rags and comics (of which the Sun is the lowest of that dung heap) to print whatever they like, unfettered, because there is no way to discover the 'source', 'un-named source', 'insider','didn't want his name used', or whatever other pseudonym they wish to use for the office tea boy.

I cannot believe we are giving any credence or validity to the basis of this jackanory. Most of what comes out of the minds of those journos is a load of pony anyways - almost as believable as the National Enquirer!!

If the problem is the senior players like Etuhu Murphy etc, then the sooner they are not included in the team the better.

They may have played well v Arsenal but they didn't v Twente because as DM publically said during the early rounds "He finds it hard to get up for the Europa League matches" a great example to the younger members of the squad!

MJG

"Several senior stars believe the boss is showing little faith in his existing squad"

Two things about that...Firstly, who has been really dropped from that core set of old pro's? None of them, they were still there midweek, last week and the week before.
Secondly, if he had lost faith in them I would expect to have seen the younger players given more of a chance.

They really are coming across as a litlle cartel of senior pro's who like a bit of training at MP and then a game together while they all pick up money for their pension.

Jol has the right to manage as he sees appropriate, so the players must respect that or move on out.

Jol also does need to lower the age of the sqaud and the longer this is delayed the worse the problem gets.

1. This is not a Europa league game, though he might struggle to get up for liverpool.... :dft002:

2. Play the kids in the cup (a la Chelsea down and outs) or give them a chance in a not so showcased high profile game. Wigan at home on a dour Tuesday night, yes. Liverpool at home on the television with the eyes and scrutiny of the world not to mention the potential for a complete and embarrassment and career shattering performance, no.

Some times you do not need to get rid of all the trouble makers, just one to split up the gang will do.  Seen this happen at work quite a lot with team troubles

yeah because the team is really flying with it's normal midfield  fp.gif Why not freshen things up, at least they might actually try to win a game.

Murph will always raise his game when we play Liverpool and United. He, and hard though I find this to say, Etuhu must start. And finish ideally. And Ruiz has got to start IMO.
