The Lack Of Respect To Fulham Is Astounding

After Fulham signing Bryan Ruiz was forced to deny reports that he had only moved to Fulham for the money involved, and would have preferred to have signed for London rivals Spurs, it cannot be ignored that these reports show a shocking lack of respect towards Fulham and indeed Martin Jol.

For a club who are established in the Premier League and not too long ago reached the Europa League final, to talk about them as if they are a lower league club and are only capable of attracting players because of the wages they will pay is quite frankly wrong.

Ruiz stated that he joined Fulham because it felt more personal than the other clubs and wanted to play under Jol – again a brilliant and proven manager who commands a great deal of respect throughout the game, and it is entirely plausible that a player would join the club for such reasons.

You would not hear a story like this about a Chelsea or United, and to treat Fulham differently is not acceptable in any way. Much like linking Dembele with a move away from Fulham to Spurs and leading with the line 'no disrespect to Fulham' which of course means that Fulham are about to be totally disrespected.

It is not just Fulham who suffer from this, and much like the way so called bigger clubs get perceived protection from referees, they also get an easier ride with the media in terms of players being linked to them – not wanting to leave for a better club.

There will be no reports of United or City players wanting to leave because they are not playing Champions League football, but there are always reports that players want to leave clubs such as Spurs for the same reasons.

It is natural for clubs who have more success and are so called 'bigger and better' to have players linked to them and wanting to make the move for the opportunity of trophies, and this has to be reported on in the media, but it would not go amiss for a little bit of respect to their current clubs.
