Hunter turns down Premier League big boys to sign for Bristol Rovers

By Warren Haughton | Tuesday, June 19, 2012

Shaquille Hunter has agreed to sign his first professional contract with Bristol Rovers, despite interest from the Premier League big boys.

The League Two outfit have pulled off a major coup signing local boy Hunter after fighting off the advances of Manchester City, Liverpool and Fulham.

Hunter is yet to appear for Rovers, despite being on the bench ten times last season, but is seen as one of the hottest prospects in the Football League.

The 16-year-old wants to further his development at the Memorial Stadium under the guidance of boss Mark McGhee.

A source close to the player told talkSPORT: "Shaquille is delighted and excited to sign his new deal, he's happy to be part of Mark McGhee's first team plans and can't wait for the new season to start"

Chairman Nick Higgs added: "We are delighted Shaquille has signed his first professional contract with us. He is a really exciting prospect and we are pleased that he has committed his future to us."

The winger will sign his first professional deal in August when he turns 17.
