As well as remembering the Haynes era at the top, it is worth noting also that our second-tier seasons since then included: an FA Cup final; substantial input from two UK greats (Moore and Best); and forcing one of the best ever Liverpool teams, at full-strength, to two cup replays. A trio of different `Championship' teams that did that, in the last case only shortly prior to David Bulstrode. So older supporters look back to an exceptionally varied time (with the chance to visit most grounds in the country!) but which is absolutely not summed up by the decade prior to Al Fayed. It was that awful decade that was exceptional in Fulham's ten-times-as-long history; and when that history gets written, this should be remembered.

From the day when the elders of our club decided to not move to the newly built Stamford Bridge and indeed not to combine with Woolwich Arsenal, Fulham set the standard of being an eccentric member of London Football Clubs. You only have to read The Foundation History of Fulham, that LBNo11 published a year and a bit ago, to appreciate just how Fulham are and always have been, different to other Football Clubs. Back in the fifties, there used to be a cup competition called The London Challenge Cup. this was mainly competed for by reserve teams of London Clubs but the delight we all felt then because Fulham had won it was immeasurable.
