Philippe's Highlights

After a serious injury shortly after signing for the Club limited his contributions to our 2010/11 campaign, Philippe Senderos was delighted to play a more significant role this time around as he went on to make 28 appearances under Martin Jol.

The Swiss international showed no signs of the achilles problem that curtailed his debut season at the Club and while the most important thing for Philippe was Fulham's performances, the centre-back was in no doubt when pressed for his personal highlights of the campaign.

"Scoring the winning goal against Wigan was really nice," he admitted to fulhamfc.com. "It was an important game because we felt we wanted to be getting a win at home and to get the goal in the last minute was a good feeling.

"That said though, as a Team I think the moment that was really special was beating Arsenal. The emotions you go through when you are losing 1-0 and you have chances and then come back to win with such late goals is really special.

"That is something that stands out in my head as a great feeling and a big highlight."

Philippe's footballing CV is up with the best of them but the defender is keen for Fulham to be the greatest beneficiaries of his career.

"It's been really good for me to build my fitness this year and I'm really happy to have played so many games," he said. "I want to continue doing that and hopefully I can establish myself in the starting 11 for next season.

"If I can do that and stay fit, then hopefully I can play more games next year. But I'm really happy. I feel that I am back playing at my best level and that I will only keep improving from here."

Baird Staying!

Although the gossip columns are linking versatile Chris Baird with a move, that doesn`t appear to be the case.

Baird, linked with a move to newly promoted Southampton (his old club), has remarked t the red-top press via a pal,

"Chris is happy at Fulham. He just wants to play."

Having made only 13 Premier League appearances last season, Martin Jol might have a say on whether any bid form Southampton is successful or not.

Etuhu Wanted

In an out of the first team last season, it appears that our Nigerian midfielder, Dickson Etuhu, could be leaving Craven Cottage.

Several sources are implying that the thirty year old Nigerian international is wanted by Tony Pulis at Stoke.

Etuhu has served Fulham for four seasons since moving south from Sunderland but the consensus of opinion is that Fulham, if Stoke make an offer, would like to recoup the £1.5 million fee originally paid for him.

Murphy Exit?

Earlier this week the inference, from the tabloid press, was that Danny Murphy was set to put pen to paper on a new deal at Craven Cottage.

Unfortunately, the tabloid press are now suggesting things are not that cut and dried.

They`re inferring that Danny isn`t too impressed by the offer of a one-year contract and Steve Kean, who has worked with Danny before, is looking to take the thirty-five year old into the Championship to help revitalize Blackburn Rovers.

Will Danny be tempted? We`d suggest not!

Ireland want Duff to play on
Tardelli keen for winger to remain in international fold

Damien Duff: Ireland keen for winger to remain part of the international fold

Marco Tardelli has called on Damien Duff to prolong his international career as the Republic of Ireland bring the curtain down on their Euro 2012 campaign.

After the heavy defeats by Croatia and Spain, Ireland tackle Italy in their final Group C encounter on Monday night with question marks over the future of a number of their senior players.

Italy need to win in Poznan if they are to stand any chance of making the quarter-finals, and find a side managed by compatriots Giovanni Trapattoni and his assistant Tardelli standing in their way.

Trapattoni has already indicated he will not make wholesale changes in an attempt to avoid any accusations of handing the Italians an advantage and Duff will win his 100th cap if he is selected.

Goalkeeper Shay Given has admitted the time could be right to step aside after the tournament, while Robbie Keane plans to play on, with Tardelli hoping the 33-year-old Duff follows the lead of the Irish skipper.

Future

Tardelli said: "Damien Duff is a very good lad and he is a very good player. For us, he has been very important for this team, in qualification, against France and against the other teams.

"We need him for the future because he is a very important person for all the players and the younger players."

The Republic trained in Gdynia on Saturday morning and there was a brief concern when central defender Richard Dunne appeared to injure his back, although Tardelli was not too worried.

He said: "Richard Dunne took a knock, but it is not a problem."

Tardelli is confident Ireland can play with a freedom against Italy, rather than the apparent fear and tension which blighted their earlier displays.

Nervous or afraid

He said: "Yes, we will play with less pressure. We want to put the pressure on the other team.

"Many players are playing for the first time in an important tournament. I think some players have felt nervous or afraid. Against Italy, there is no pressure."

Ireland have a good record against the Italians under Trapattoni having not lost on any of the three occasions on which the teams have met, the last of which resulted in a 2-0 friendly victory.

Tardelli added: "We have played Italy many times and we have won and we have drawn. We hope to win or draw again.

"Italy at this moment is very strong because they played very, very well against Spain, and I think our players need to be proud to beat this Italian team."

Burak Yilmaz targeted by Spurs and Fulham, Trabzonspor confirm
Burak Yilmaz is a transfer target for both Spurs and Fulham, Turkish club Trabzonspor have confirmed.

The striker was the top scorer in the Super Lig last season and Galatasaray are keen to land him.

Trabzonspor will not sell to another Turkish side, but club president Sadri Sener has revealed he is happy for the 26-year-old to move abroad.

Sener claimed there is already strong interest in the Turkey international from three foreign clubs.

'He wants to play in Europe. Lazio, Tottenham and Fulham are interested in him. We'll wait and see how the story will end,' the official said.

Yilmaz also stated he expects to move to a foreign club, but did not say which one.

'I've had three offers from the best leagues and in the coming days I will decide,' the forward said.

Yilmaz has had spells with Besiktas and Fenerbahce, but failed to make an impact with either of them and his career did not really take off until he joined Trabzonspor in 2010.

He scored 19 times in his first full season with the club and followed up that feat with 33 goals last term.

FREE POG UP FOR GREBS

FULHAM face challenges from Aston Villa and Reading in their bid to sign Russia international Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The London club failed to agree a deal for the striker before he left for Euro 2012.

Pogrebnyak, 28, scored six goals in 12 games last season after joining the Craven Cottage outfit in January on a short-term loan from Stuttgart.

He's now a free agent and wants to continue in the Premier League, with Paul Lambert's Villa and top-flight new boys Reading showing an interest.

Pogrebnyak said: "After three or four months, I feel that I have found my place in England and I want to play in this league.

"I feel great desire and strength inside me and my age will not work against me.

"We couldn't agree anything with Fulham so far but I hope everything will be all right.

"If I don't play for Fulham I hope to find another team."

Fulham joined by Villa and Reading in race to sign Russian striker Pogrebnyak

Fulham face competition from Aston Villa and Reading in the race to sign Russia striker Pavel Pogrebnyak.

The 28-year-old impressed during a short-term spell at the end of last season, scoring six goals in 12 games after joining from Stuttgart.

But the Craven Cottage outfit were unable to agree a new deal before Euro 2012.

Wanted man: Pavel Pogrebnyak is keen to remain in the Premier League

Pogrebnyak, who was unable to prevent Russia crashing out of the competition on Saturday, has made it clear he wants to remain in England.

But Fulham boss Martin Jol will have to go head to head with Paul Lambert's Villa and new boys Reading, according to the Daily Star on Sunday.

Pogrebnyak said: 'After three or four months, I feel that I have found my place in England and I want to play in this league.

After we gave Pavel Pogrebnyak his chance in English football it looks like, if the tabloid press are right, the Russian is going to do the dirty on us.

Reports are filtering through that Pavel looks set to sign for newly promoted Reading, signing up for a club that has a Russian owner in Anton Zingarevich.

It seems money might be talking on this one and if it is, although the loss will be hard to bare, we`ve got to agree with our club for taking a stance on this one.

Good luck to Waltham Forest FC, but I wish they could have found a more up to date picture.

I've just wasted an hour of beautiful sunshine on it. I think I've got it sussed out now (still a bit confused about some of the numbers).

Anyone else fancy a go (I wasted a good bit of time thinking it was West Ham, which, of course, it ain't.

Home Friendly In Doubt For Reds

Fulham reject Oakwell match.

Barnsley could be set to enter the new season without having played a home pre-season friendly after Premier League side Fulham became the latest side to reject a match at Oakwell.

Back before the 2011-2012 season had even ended, The Reds had local rivals Sheffield Wednesday pencilled in to make the short journey up the A61 as they have for the previous two seasons, but the Owls promotion back to the Championship scuppered those plans.

Barnsley then approached Wednesday's city neighbours Sheffield United, who remained in League One after losing the play-off final to Huddersfield but Danny Wilson's side rejected the idea. And now West London outfit Fulham have declined the invitation, leaving The Reds with precious little time to organise a game.

Director Don Rowing told the Barnsley Chronicle:
"The manager is trying to find a club but it's getting late now. It's a shame about Fulham – they said they didn't want to play outside the capital.

"It seems anything north off Wycombe is a bit too far for them and they didn't fancy the trek up to Yorkshire."

Well played!

I thought 15 was Kamara. But further investigation reveals that Kamara (who was 11 that year) was subbed for Voltz and Healey went off for...Collins John (15). So we now know, to complete the anorakishness, that the picture was taken after the 68th minute!

(I'm disappointed you couldn't name the Villa supporter scratching his chin in the top lh corner.)
