What I don't understand is this:
What he did is not illegal, so what exactly is all the fuss about?
Millions of people have been doing this for years, including most contract workers that I know, who claim all manner of expenses and pay virtually no tax, but I don't see anyone campaigning against IT contractors!

I think the point is that IT contractors don't tend to go on TV shows and have a go at people who fail to pay their taxes properly, whereas Jimmy Carr does.
As previous posters have said, it will not do him any long-term harm, but hopefully it will shame him, and possibly a few others, into paying their way, as the rest of us have to do.

And I doubt IT contractors pay just 1% tax. Still immoral mind, but still.

He was at pains to say that he hadn't thought about what he was doing and apologised. So, has he said that he'll pay back the arrears and undertaken to pay his dues in future, because if he did, I didn't hear it?
