Grygera not yet down and out

ZDENEK Grygera is closing in on a return to full fitness as Martin Jol prepares to make a decision on his future.

The out-of-contract Czech defender has been trying to prove his fitness to his boss in a bid to earn a new deal as he continues his recovery from a horrific cruciate ligament injury picked up last season.

The 32-year-old wasn't included in the 21-man squad submitted to the Premier League last week, but is still training with the club at Motspur Park.

Grygera played 90 minutes of the recent friendly win against Oman 'A' and came through the full game in last night's clash with Middlesbrough for the U21s.

But Jol wants to wait until the former Juventus full-back is 100 per cent fit again before deciding whether to offer him fresh terms in SW6.

"Grygera is still not match-fit," said the Dutchman. "He played against Oman last week and did well so he's close. We will wait until he's fully-fit to make a decision [on his future]."

The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Riverside

He looked good at right back before he was injured but that position seems to be take ( Reither ) and covered ( Kelly ).

So do we have a 3rd Right Back ?
or can he play elsewhere ? Need some Centre Back cover ....
Or is Jol thinking of Reither as Midfield ?

mr-ska

He was quality last season before his injury...  is there room for him in our squad now?  I hope so.  The fact he's stayed and worked with the squad seems to indicate Jol may want to offer him a deal..

ffcbulgaria

for a player who can play anywhere at the back and put in good performances and who's not going to cost us any transfer money... we've better re-sign him as a backup defender

I was interested in Zamora's view that Baird was the best right back with whom he's ever played.  So, we have even more cover in that position.
Nogood "right back where we started from, isit" Boyo

I think he's a good man to have available and, unlike Citeh, we've got space in our squad numbers.
You came all this way ... and you lost, and you lost.
