The 'ammers seem to be on a charm offensive a the moment. Read an article by Geoff Hurst yesterday gushing about the proposed move to Stratford.

Would be a perfectly good way to ruin a beautiful public park by having that lot tramp through every other week.

West ham moving into the stadium at Stratford would spoil my Olympic legacy.... :dft007:

the link is an interesting article  about the area then and now

Prior to the work starting  it was like a bomb site.   The old Hackney dog track  was used for speedway until the late  90's
and was trashed. It became a market, a big  sprawling affair,   where you could buy anything, I mean any thing !!!
If dropped into the centre and asked where you were,  Mogadishu would probably be the answer.
It is still a vast improvement ......................even with the Hammer gathering there every other week

They will have to do a lot of work to make it into a football friendly stadium. The crowd are separated from the pitch by a running track. Also with the Capacity at 80,000 West Ham could be playing in front of a less than half empty ground.  Mind you 10 million pounds for a 99 year lease is a bargain.

its 10 million per year for 99 years

The concept of the stadium being used on a regular basis for something is part of the legacy i.e. rather than having a white elephant, you have something which is still in use and contributing to the local economy.

From that perspective, all well and good.

Given that it still has to be fit for athletics, I am not sure how well it lends itself to being a football stadium.

I read somewhere that the stadium can be reduced because it is made from separate pods and is  lightweight, ecofriendly structure  an will be reduced to a more functional size and the track can be covered

That makes more sense..  in the long run they'd be better off building a new stadium.

...unlike most Hammers fans!

I was lucky enough to go to the Olympic Stadium five times during the Olympics and Paralympics and, whilst it is a wonderful stadium in itself, I would hate to have to watch my team play there every other week.  One of the most attractive things about Craven Cottage, to me, is the fact that we are right on top of the playing field. That adds to the atmosphere for me.

well, it's  not like the track will be ruined by an over enthusiastic hemmer fans pitch invasion celebrating anything for the foreseeable future, is it?   :011:

Probably means quite a bit to Barry Hearn too!
