Yeovil Town sign giant from Fulham

YEOVIL Town have signed up Fulham defender Daniel Burn - who stands a whopping 6ft 6ins tall - on a youth loan.

Burn, who is currently captain of Fulham's Under-21 Development Side, has signed for the Huish Park outfit for an initial one month period.

Diary of a Punter: Goals to flow between Fulham and Manchester City
With Manchester Untied's win over Liverpool ensuring a healthy profit for the week, Jim Knight is feeling confident and backing plenty of goals at Craven Cottage

Last week was bitter-sweet. Fleetwood Town failing to beat Bristol Rovers provided the bitter on Saturday and on Sunday Manchester United - courtesy of a Mark Halsey assist - provided the sweet, meaning the profit column for the season receives a bit of a boost.

The free £20 bet was won by Tom Akehurst who correctly tipped up Wolves to beat struggling Peterborough in the Championship at a shade over evens.

It just goes to show you do not have to predict a big price winner, so be sure to get your weekend tip into [email protected] before noon on Saturday. Include the price and "Power20" in the subject to make sure your entry is counted.

One of my selections this week is a Both Teams to Score double, this is a very popular bet with punters and when included in a multiple can provide great entertainment and solid profit too. For the bet to win you need both teams to score in the match at least once and with a bit of research it's often easy to see which teams score goals but also struggle to keep clean sheets.

Fulham have made a good start to the Premier League season and importantly for this bet, have scored in every one of their last seven competitive games.

A combined eight goals against Norwich and West Brom will have the Craven Cottage crowd full of confidence for Saturday's clash against Manchester City.

Roberto Mancini's men have had their problems on the road in recent weeks and months and are yet to win away in any of their three games on the road but importantly for this bet, they have scored in all of them.

In fact, their last six Premier League games away from Etihad Stadium have seen City score at least once. I could not back the champions at odds-on for this game but both teams to score looks a decent bet at 4/6 (1.67).

Fulham boss ponders midfield options

FULHAM boss Martin Jol is scouring the market in a bid to bolster his depleted squad.

The Dutchman is short of options in the middle of the park following the summer departures of Danny Murphy, Dickson Etuhu and Moussa Dembele, while Mahamadou Diarra could be out for up to six months if his knee problem is serious.

Jol has been forced to field Steve Sidwell and Chris Baird for the wins against West Brom and Wigan, but is still keen to bolster his engine room.

Fulham must wait until January to sign players from other clubs, but can add free agents outside of the transfer window.

Jol landed veteran Greek international Giorgos Karagounis earlier this month and admits he could swoop again, with Neil Reo-Coker, Thomas Hitzelsperger and Owen Hargreaves among those without a club.

He said: "As you know when there was an opportunity with Karagounis we did that, there was an opportunity last year with Diarra and we did that. If there's an opportunity to get a good player in we will do that."

Jol: We're still looking for players

Fulham manager Martin Jol has admitted that he is open to the idea of bringing in a free agent before the January transfer window opens, in order to relieve the pressure on his thinning central midfield.

Martin Jol is open to the idea of making yet another free agent signing to accompany Giorgos Karagounis and last year's acquisition of Mahamadou Diarra.

With a transfer deadline day that didn't quite go to plan, Fulham have been left with a threadbare central midfield and the scenario has been worsened by the news that Diarra, now a linchpin in Jol's plans, could potentially miss up to six months of action with news still pending on his knee injury.

After losing Danny Murphy, Moussa Dembele, Dickson Etuhu and Marcel Gecov - among others - over the course of the summer, Jol had plans to boost his midfield numbers on the last day of the window. He had his eyes on, particularly, Vadis Odjidja-Ofoe and Wilson Palacios, but a deal for the former fell through while a move for the latter was not completed in time.

The crisis in numbers led to the signing of Giorgos Karagounis and the deployment of the versatile Chris Baird in the middle of the park. So far, Baird has impressed while Steve Sidwell has held fort well, but Karagounis has yet to feature.

And, with the successful signing of Diarra in the past, Jol is not afraid to delve into the free transfer market again in the near future.

"As you know," Jol told the Fulham Chronicle, "when there was an opportunity with Karagounis we did that, there was an opportunity last year with Diarra and we did that. If there's an opportunity to get a good player in we will do that."

More than likely, the Dutchman has three particular players in mind - Nigel Reo-Coker, Thomas Hitzelsperger and Owen Hargreaves.
