According to a book written by Simon Inglis in 1983 1 Billion 100 Million people attended league games between this period and there were less than 50 fatalities (50 to many of course) We can therfore conclude that during footballs primitive stages you had a 1 in 2.2 Million chance of a fatal injury whilst attending a football match. Things have moved on since those days and the risk is of course now very much lower. Even on the basis that we assume the risk has decreased by half thats a 1 in 4.4 Miliion chance, for me thats one I am happy to take to stand at football.
