It was his choice, he chose to go and play in the African Nations cup instead of coming to Fulham. Common sense really, we weren't going to sign a player only to find he gets injured before he arrives at the club and doesn't play for the next 6 months

The last I read was that the clubs lawyers were looking in to his old clubs claim that he was still signed to them. If he is we cannot sign him if he isn't he will be a free agent. In any event I tend to the thought that the loan players we have signed rule us out of the need to sign him any way.

We ended up with four players predicted by....absolutely no one (at least not until the deals were almost done.)

It is, indeed, progress NOT to actually buy any player. After all, nothing is more efficient than securing the services of a player for four months -- two of which will be spent getting the player up to full Premier League fitness.

Are you seriously still not happy, even slightly? Would you prefer us do like the ha ha's? If so, I fear you will never be happy until they sack Jol which is a real shame, and I hope Jol can prove all the doubters wrong. I'd love to know who we most wanted and why we didn't get them simply for knowledge and not as a stick to beat the Board or Jol.

Now that's to his credit of course if they turn out to be assets but it doesn't look likely to me that these are the guys we were hoping to get a month ago.

1. I didn't say anything about Jol. I don't think Jol makes transfer POLICY.

2. There is a middle ground between spending NOTHING and bankrupting your club. It's a shame that your reaction to a statement you disagree with always seems to be that the ONLY alternative is lunacy.

3. I like the players we have loaned in. I like that fact that, in four or five weeks they'll be fit enough to play 90 minutes in the Prem. I DON'T like that the best we'll get out of them is two or three months.

4. I don't like the fact that signing players for the short term or getting them on loan means that we get no compensation when they go. We could have gotten a few bob for Pog, and we could get a fat bundle for Riether.

5. I don't agree with the assumption that a player will decide to make his loan deal permanent. Let's say this is what happens with Riether. After the season he's had with us, he'll cost us two to three times more to sign this summer than he might have last summer. Frankly, he's been so good for us, we probably can't afford him any more.

6. One of the things about BUYING players is that you can subsequently SELL them and actually bring in money to use for, you know, upgrading your squad.

7. You didn't make this point, but others have said, "Yes, but look at all the talent we have coming up through the ranks" -- mentioning a half dozen players all of whom we've been told over and over are no better than League 1 talent.

Last year, the year before, and the year before that, it was possible in early February to look at our squad and say "We'll be a solid mid-table club next season with one or two good transfers in this summer. With the very real possibility of losing 14 players at the end of the season, it's impossible to guess where we'll finish or who'll be turning out for us next season.

So, yes, while I like the players, I'm unhappy. From last January to this February -- three transfer periods -- we have shown that our team policy is to replenish the squad on a short term basis rather than building future stability.
