For those of you who have been on here a while you may recall about 18 months ago my 90 odd year old grandad wrote a book :
Rifleman
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rifleman-Front-Line-Alamein-Dresden-Berlin/dp/1408822083/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1360770855&sr=1-1

He did some press and a programe on Radio 4 was played on remembrance day.

Anyway the old git has sat down and written another book  Dresden: A Survivor's Story

Here is a link to a video which is on the BBC website today.

His first book did well and got some decent reviews. I don't agree with some of what he says but in the end its his stories and there are not many of his kind left.

Just watched the video, for 92 he looks like he's doing very well

Heard an interview with him on my way to work this morning on the BBC Newshour. Figured he must have been about 90 since he said he was in the war for six years (1939 minus about eighteen years, born around 1921 or before) and hadn't seen anything like Dresden. Maybe I'm just ageist, but I didn't think he sounded that old, he clearly still felt strongly about what had happened and, while I don't know all of his views, it seemed hard to disagree with what he was saying in the interview, just basically that there are no winners in war, even the good guys (and I didn't think he was suggesting that the Allies weren't in the grander scheme) end up doing bad things.

He's not as sure on feet as he was, but this whole book adventure has kept him going.
He already has a third book ready for May about life in London as kid inbetween the wars in the Kings Cross area.
