40 points

Every year people talk about 40 points being the safe points total and it always falls short, after another round of results this could be the season when 40 points might not be enough.  Every time I start to look up the gap closes below us.  2 wins should do it for us but I don't reckon Norwich, Newcastle and Stoke fans will be sleeping well for the next few weeks.

It would.  Still think we are fine but god its close down there.  Reading, QPR and Sunderland for me.

Sunderland and Aston Villa are going backwards. Reading and QPR are on 23 points, 13 points behind us. We have games in hand.

Aren't some of us being a tad pessimistic?

Too many teams below us who also have to play each other; we are fine.  I will be very very surprised if more than 40 points will be needed this season having looked at the fixtures.  Even wigan. who have picked up points recently, have a very tough run in.

It's is all too bloody close - Monday win would be very good result.

I'm not suggesting we are going down (we aren't), just saying that 3/4 weeks ago it was thought that as low as 33/34 would see you safe, will certainly be higher than that.

You have to be really pessimistic to think that we won't pick up 4 or more points in 9 games.

The fact that we are in 10th means that 8 teams have to overtake us.

I cannot comprehend that possibility. I still believe that we should be looking up the table.

I have a good feeling that we are about to string 3 wins together in two games time I think we will be 8th on 42 points overtaking Swansea. COYW

I think and someone will correct me, that west ham went down on 42 points once.

We appear to be in good form at the moment..  haven't lost in 4 games.  Hope the international break.. doesnt unsettle us.  Saying that, Ruiz has come back injured!!  I think there are plenty of points out there for us.

I can see us easily getting 10 from the remaining games which would give us 46, comfortably away from danger sitting in 9th or 10th

I think we should be looking at a little higher as Swansea and WBA haven't been playing very well (take today's results into an account). Swansea know they have a euro spot so they won't bother pushing anymore and west brom have dipped quite a lot in form and they have arsenal next week so they are both catchable

I really think 37 will see you safe this season.  Strange season that it is.
