Pity they have lost their league status and also have gone into administration. I always watched out for their results as I used to live near Aldershot. Lovely ground situated in a recreation area with one end open.
I wish them all the best for the future.

Yeah, always had a fondness for Town since playing there in The FA youth cup in the days when they had could afford apprentice professionals. They cuffed us 6-1 but my abiding memory was how knackered I was at full-time until our manager informed us Aldershot had the biggest pitch in all the leagues (back in the sixties) only bettered by Wembley apparently.

Hope they get back soon.
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

...shame another small club heads back down when premiership players can be paid enough in a week to keep a club going for a year (or more). It is time the top earner players were docked a 'grass roots' tax to aid academies and help crisis clubs, they wouldn't even notice the money going out.

I can remember a game where they had some deck-chairs as seats in the stands! The only trouble with an away day there was the local army squaddies who 'supported' the 'Shots' and they were obviously pretty tasty if any disagreements came about..!

I live about 5 minutes from The EBB Stadium, so I follow what happens very closely. Gonna be a very very hard time for the area.

I remember when they hosted Man Utd in the Carling Cup JUST LAST SEASON, Dean Holdsworth said that the money they got could see the club stable for a few years. Wonder where it all went?
@MattRhys63 - be warned, there will be a lot of nonsense

They now have a community stand in that area grandad, Also near neighbours Farnborough went into administration last week, Maybe a good idea for them to groundshare or even merge

Lovely ground? Are you sure fella? Its a dump. Run down and in need of serious renovation.

My daughter lives about 5 mins away. I was visting her when the news came through that they'd been relegated. A shame, they'd only just got back into the league. I wish them well.

But then again, the structure of a sport that cherry picks foreign talent at the top in order to make megabucks through sky  television etc. also needs serious renovation.

Cosmetic initiatives in local schools by the stars don't replace the need for a structure that forms a pyramid where the megacash filters through the layers rather than being diverted to nightclubs, casinos, slow horses, fast women etc. etc. via premier league paypackets.

I'm so sad for clubs like Aldershot.

I never forgave them after that match when Jeff Hopkins broke his leg. They were a right dirty team at that time and its always in the back of my mind when they are mentioned. And it wasn't always a great place to travel to either.

If you go back far enough in time you can say that about a lot of teams - Enfield, Shrewsbury, Northampton, Cardiff etc...

With Aldershot & Farnbrough both in admin, and the council wanting the Shots ground for development, I have it on good authority that one idea being touted is that both teams merge and play at Farnborough.
It could not have happened if Aldershot had stayed up because of Boro's ground but now thats not a proble.
I don't really think it will happen, but talks have taken place in the last month.

Very sad, worked with a Shots season ticket holder, he'll be gutted. Used to love going to the Rec, first time was that freezing night penalty loss. The second time was when we beat them 3-0, it was Michael Cole's first game. The crowd was about 4500 and it seemed half of them were Fulham. I have the video of the game and used to love watching the Fulham fans go mental when Gary Barnett scores the third. The next time was the evening game when Clive Walker got the winner, I remember walking up that little winding path through the garden/wood behind the away end to celebrate in that pub. It's a proper old football ground and I seriously would take it over a Reebok any day of the week.

I was there and agree about the ground..BUT I went to a game last season and its a wreck. Needs so much money put into it to bring it up to even just a decent standard. If fans last went to Aldershot in the game you menetion and went back today you would not see much difference.

I don't know who you work for Mr LB but would you want to be docked a 'grass roots' tax to support another company in your line of work further down the food chain, probably not many of us would.

...alfie, let's call it an altruistic investment into the trade which has more than handsomely paid your wages. Many premier league players are paid obscene amounts of money and they wouldn't notice the spare change that they would not give out of charity but would not notice if taken to be put back into the game...

I remember Geoff Eckhart doing a twenty yard sliding tackle there at a very wet cup tie, back in the day...

Geoff Eckhart pretty much did a 20 yard sliding tackle in every game, but yes, you're right, I was there that day.

I remember watching us play them in the mid 80's. Cant  even remember if it was a league game or not but was around the time we lost 11-10 on pens to them i think ?  I was 14 and had with me my cousin and mate from school. 13 and 14 yr olds. We were on the tube a couple of stops from Putney Bridge. About 12 guys in their 20's and 30's came on singing footy songs. My 13 yr old cousin showed them his Fulham scarf and one of them, an Aldershot Pr1ck, punched him in the head about 3 times. His mates had to drag him away.
We were sat in the old stevenage Rd Stand, and could actually see the group of twats in the Putney end because there was only  about 80 away supporters.
Since then Ive always disliked them. No offence but good riddance.. A mini Gillingham.  Shower of Shite
