Will Riise start the season at Left Back?

I am starting to think he will, Richardson is a good player but can't get a run of games together without getting injured, when we get clean sheets Riise is playing, I'm not a huge fan of his but he was very good when Dempsey was infront of him, maybe if him & Kacaniklic can get a good understanding then he can be effective next season

domprague

Not sure Kaca will ever provide much defensive cover. That's fine if Riise was a 'sit back and defend' type of left back but I can see us being shredded on the left while the pair of them are at the other end of the pitch.
You came all this way ... and you lost, and you lost.

I'm not convinced its all Riise's fault the issues he has had this last season.
Must have been at least 6 players one time or another who played in front if him. That would make any player hesitant at times not knowing how from week to week what kind of player he has in front of him.
Stick with Kaca on the left and give both a good solid run of games together.

Start Briggs and give him a run of games with Richardson and/or Riise on the bench.

If Briggs does not cut it.  Put Riise or Richardson on/back in the starting line up and get a "new" left back next summer (2014) when Riise is out of contract.

If Briggs makes the grade we have the satisfaction of a home grown Englishman in the first IX and we have saved ourselves a transfer fee

Rumours are that we are interested in Erik Pieters from PSV who is a left back. In that case Riise will be on the bench.

CHRIS MARTIN IS SO BAD,  WE NOW PRAISE HIM FOR MAKING A RUN.

Riise was one of our worst performers last season and simply cannot start next season..... Richardson is a no no as well.... This is a key position we need to fill in the summer Imo

Burt

Agree with Deano.

Riise's performances have been going backwards, and he isn't getting any younger.

JackyFulham90

If we are on a small budget I would rather see us strengthen central midfield than left back

he goes backwards with the ball as well.....all the time

it  might be a coincidence but we have more clean sheets with Riise as starter than with any other defender

Not key position at all. GK, creative CM and a quick ST are needed much more. Then focus on LB and WGs.

He has had his chances, and in my opinion, not good enough.

Out run too easily, no attacking threat, and useless on the counter attack, in both directions.

Your priorities may well be right but the transfer window does not allow a club to work down their list of targets in priority order. Would Reither, Amorebieta and Boateng have been the first three targets on your list? You have to try to plan ahead but then you must take the players as they becoming available.

And, unfortunately, it is most likely that the top targets, the more expensive targets will only be ready to sign for a club like Fulham towards the end of the window. So if a left back we want is willing to sign now we must take them or risk losing them.

I agree and disagree Brown.... We do need players in the area your suggesting, thats clear for us all to see. But I feel if we get a decent left back we will have an organised back 4, and is an equal priority in my eyes.

Said the fan who goes to every home game and sees his ineffectiveness.

Fair point, but, if Richardson stays fit, I think he is a good left back, but he is so injury prone, you have a point.
