Under-18s Fixtures Released

The fixtures for the 2013/14 Barclays Under-18 Premier League season have now been released.

As is the case with the Under-21s, there is a new format for the coming campaign, with the Under-18 sides now split into two regional leagues; North and South. Fulham are in the 11-team Southern Regional League alongside Arsenal, Aston Villa, Chelsea, Leicester City, Norwich City, Reading, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur, West Bromwich Albion and West Ham United.

Every Academy side in each league holds Category One status, with Fulham playing each team in the Southern League home and away. Additionally, we will play each side from the Northern league once.

The season starts at home to one of our Northern counterparts as Stoke City make the trip down to Motspur Park on Saturday 17th August, before Steve Wigley's boys travel to Arsenal a week later.

Further notable matches this year include London derbies away to Spurs, West Ham and Chelsea, before the New Year kicks off with the reverse fixture against Arsenal at home.

The team will then depart for the Gottingen Tournament which is immediately followed up by back-to-back away fixtures at Villa and Reading.

Some of our youngsters will have the opportunity to defend the Under-19s' title at the Dallas Cup in the middle of April, before ending the U-18s' campaign with a home tie against Manchester United.

Should Fulham finish in the top two of the Southern League, then we will progress to the Semi-Finals. If we finish top then we will be designated the home team and will face the runners-up from the Northern League.

Fulham sign midfielder Ange-Freddy Plumain on free transfer

Fulham have completed the signing of French midfielder Ange-Freddy Plumain on a three-year contract.

Plumain, 18, a former France Under 16 international, left Lens earlier this summer after making 22 appearances for the French Ligue 2 side last season.

He is set to spend the season with Kit Symons' development squad.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has also signed defender Fernando Amorebieta, midfielder Derek Boateng and goalkeeper Maarten Stekelenburg this summer.

Shahid Khan turns to yoga to deal with stress over Michael Jackson statue

New Fulham owner Shahid Khan has revealed that he has turned to yoga to help himself deal with the stress caused by the Michael Jackson statue at Craven Cottage.

The tribute to the King of Pop was introduced by former chairman Mohamed Fayed in 2011, two years after the American singer passed away.

While Fayed insisted that the statue would stay put following Khan's takeover, the Cottagers' new owner has joked that he is feeling stressed over what to do with the tribute.

"You have to take a deep breath and reflect," The Sun quotes Khan as saying.

"I'm in a Lotus pose and doing my yoga meditation. I didn't think it would be that big of a deal to the fans or the chairman."

Jackson attended Fulham's home clash against Wigan Athletic in 1999 as Fayed's guest.

Plaque Unveiled

To commemorate Fulham's foundation 134 years ago, a plaque was unveiled at St. Andrew's Church on Sunday 21st July by legends Tosh Chamberlain, George Cohen and Les Strong.

The event, which was included as part of the church's annual summer fair, opened with a few words of welcome from Reverend Guy Wilkinson, Labour MP for Hammersmith and Shadow Justice Minister Andy Slaughter and Club Chaplain Reverend Gary Piper.

The wooden commemorative plaque has been produced in red cedar and features three crests that represent St. Andrew's Church and Fulham Football Club, including the original and contemporary Club badge.

Some of Fulham's finest players from history Chamberlain, Cohen and Strong unveiled the plaque and then posed for pictures and signed autographs for the fans who made the trip across to see them. A 2013/14 home shirt was also donated as a prize for the Church Raffle.

The Club would like to thank all involved who helped to make it a special day for Fulham, you can visit the Church website here.

The 18-year-old, who arrived on a free transfer, will go straight into Kit Symons' Development squad for the new 2013/14 Barclays Under-21 Premier League season, having previously played for French Ligue 2 side RC Lens - scoring one goal in 22 appearances for their first team last season.

Manchester United and Arsenal beaten to wonderkid signing Bernard Malanda-Adje by Fulham
FULHAM are close to sealing a deal for Belgian wonderkid Bernard Malanda-Adje.

Belgian international Bernard Malanda-Adje

The 18-year-old was an important member of Jupiter pro-league side Zulte Waregem's push for a Champions League spot, with several big Premier League side keeping tabs since the end of last term.

Malanda has since terminated his contract with the club, using the country's labour laws to help him become a free agent, and the Cottagers now looks to be in pole postion to sign him-up.

The west London club was earlier linked to the starlet in January, with a £3.5m being mooted as the price needed to secure the former Lille man's signature.

Bernard Malanda-Adje in action

Manchester United and Arsenal were both linked to Malanda-Adje earlier in the transfer window, while new boss David Moyes tried to lure him to Goodison Park last season.

But according to Nieuwsblad, Fulham are close to agreeing a deal with the midfielder.

And since the player became a free agent, the Martin Jol led team will only have to pay a minimal training compensation fee to Zulte Waregem to complete the deal.

That Jackson Statue (Again)

If you conducted a poll relating to whether the statue of Michael Jackson, erected by Mohamed Al Fayed, should stay or go, I reckon it`d be a little one-sided with the latter being the prevalent vote.

When Shahid Khan took over the ownership of Fulham Football Club, from Mohamed Al Fayed, the latter joked that if the statue was taken down then he would personally shave off the new owners` moustache.

Now reading between the lines, it would seem that Khan is erring towards getting rid of the monstrosity which has no place, I believe, outside a football ground, with our new owner quoted as having commented,

"You have to take a deep breath and reflect."

"I`m in a Lotus pose and doing my yoga meditation."

"I didn`t think it was that big of a deal to the fans or the chairman."

Just get rid, besides the moustache will grow back!

How About Adel Taarabt

One name being banded about as being available for transfer is that of the Queens Park Rangers playmaker Adel Taarabt.

The 24 year-old is attracting interest from Stoke City as Queens Park Rangers get ready to reshape their squad ahead of a possible promotion winning side from the Championship.

Taarabt is a gifted player but a player who has a reputation as someone who might be considered a bit of a maverick behaviour wise.

Nevertheless, his skills would be a bonus to any side and his ability to open up defences and also run at them could just what we need next season.

So how about it, should we go for Taarabt or would it be too risky?

AS Roma Striker Linked!

Transfer speculation, this morning, puts Fulham in the frame for a new striker.

Already this week there have been a couple of names featured but a new one is in the frame today.

The player we`re deemed to be interested in is the AS Roma striker Pablo Osvaldo.

Apparently, there is an £8.6 million valuation on the player but apart from that we know very little else about him.

If we hear anything else we`ll report further.

How Good Is: Arsenal and Fulham Target Pablo Osvaldo

Pabolo Osvaldo is being touted as a a possible Arsenal and Fulham signing, most likely to be used in a makeweight in a deal that would see Gervinho go the other way to Roma.

Osvaldo: World Top 100 Attacker
Osvaldo's over all career record does not look all that formidable and may make you think that he would be more suited to Fulham than Arsenal, but that would be ignoring one very big factor. Last season was the finest in his career and on par with the top 20 strikers in the world let alone the top 100. His career stats are hampered by a poor first 3 or 4 season which don't truly reflect how good he is today. At 27 he could just be reaching his peak which means he may be capable of reproducing those numbers again.

League Record
Osvaldo has spent time on both La Liga and Serie A. He was more than handy for Espanyol scoring 20 times and creating 4 assists in 44 appearances giving him a goal contributed for every 131, only slight worse than Tottenham target Soldado.

That record was good enough to see him move back to Italy, this time to Roma where he continued with 2 more decent seasons, the most recent of which saw him hit 16 goals and 2 assists in 29 appearances (129 minutes per goal contributed). That means he has sustained a string record for 4 consecutive seasons and could be a steady performer.

Champions League
Osvaldo has made just 3 Champions League appearances, failing to score in any of them. He has also made a dozen appearances at Europa league level but again failed to produce the goods. He may not have the pedigree for that level of football but it would be unfair not to mention the fact that he hasn't appeared in the Champions league since he started hitting his stride at Espanyol and may well be capable of better performances at a team like Arsenal.

International
His excellent performances last season also saw him break in to the Italy squad, with prolific results. His 4 appearances in Italy's World Cup Qualification group produced 3 goals which, giving him a goal for every 97 minutes of game time. That is an outstanding record for international level and may reflect is current level of form more than his overall stats, but he'll need to sustain that quality for far longer if he wants to be considered a genuine top 100 attacker.

Our Rating
Osvaldo would rank just outside of the top 100 attackers in the world based on his over all career numbers but he has come to prominence over the past 3 seasons and consistently produced a good level of performance, culminating in his exceptional 2012/13 season for Roma which is good enough to push him in to the top 100 with a goal contributed for every 129 minutes of game time and he would certainly make an excellent back up to the main striker at Arsenal or as the main striker at Fulham.

Fulham close in on Malanda after midfielder omitted from Zulte's Champions League squad

Junior Malanda is on the brink of joining Fulham after holding talks with them on Thursday and receiving confirmation that Zulte Waregem have given up trying to hold him to a contract he broke under a Belgian labour law.

The Belgian side submitted their official squad for the Champions' League and omitted Malanda who could sign for less than £500,000 compensation.

What will matter more to Jacksonville: NASL expansion or Fulham FC? | THE SIDELINE

These are boom times for the city of Jacksonville when it comes to soccer.

On Thursday, the second-division North American Soccer League announced that the city was awarded an expansion franchise beginning play in the spring of 2015. Sunshine Soccer Group, which includes former MLS goalkeeper Darío Sala, claimed the winning bid.

"I have seen first-hand the desire the Jacksonville community has for a professional soccer team to call its own and believe this is a great move for soccer in Florida," NASL commissioner Bill Peterson said in a statement.

But just days ago, the most prominent sports owner in Jacksonville, the NFL Jaguars' Shad Khan, made waves in the international soccer world with his purchase of English Premier League side Fulham FC.

And part of his vision for the London-based club involves the city of Jacksonville. In fact, Khan announced that Fulham will play preseason matches at EverBank Field in 2014 and he feels that the city of Jacksonville will stand to benefit by the international exposure.

"If you look at the eyeballs, the typical Fulham game has, you know, 3 or 4 million people," Khan said. "I think it really gives us a huge amount of upside to play especially starting with the friendlies and some of the preseason games."

If you were a Jacksonville resident, would you adopt Fulham as your club or do you get behind your new local NASL team? Share your thoughts in the comments section below.

Lightmaker has revamped the Fulham FC's original app for iOS and Android ready for the new season.

A big part of the improvements is the new, simplified dashboard that allows the user to swipe from one link to the next.

The dashboard also includes a live match module with match highlights, the latest news, a link to videos and a link to ticket purchasing.

The media centre has been enhanced to provide a new video section. The club's internal videos offer exclusive interviews with the manager, players and behind-the-scenes footage. The news section has been streamlined and stripped of distractions to focus on the articles that users want.

Player profiles have been updated to provide details on the under 21s and under 18s. The season display means the user has access to past seasons' results, scores, league tables and match centre. Finally, the calendar synchronization lets the user save Fulham fixtures to their device's calendar.

Werder Bremen Preview

After a tour of Costa Rica, the Whites' final pre-season friendly away from Craven Cottage comes in Germany as we take on Werder Bremen on Sunday 28th July (3pm CEST).

After a gruelling tour of Costa Rica, the players will be feeling the benefits of training and playing at altitude of over 1000 metres above sea-level. The results were good too, as we scored six goals in our first two games, beating C.S. Cartagines 3-0 and Bryan Ruiz's old club L.D. Alajuelense 3-1 before ending the tour with a 2-2 draw against Deportivo Saprissa on Saturday (winning 5-3 on penalties).

- Missing the Cottage already? Get your tickets for the friendlies against Real Betis and Parma now.

The Manager used the tour to blood some of the Club's younger players and we saw appearances from Chris David, Mesca and Lasse Vigen Christensen, while the returning Matthew Briggs, David Stockdale and Marcello Trotta also had a run out as they look to establish themselves in the First Team next season after spells out on loan last year.

Fulham's summer signings Derek Boateng, Fernando Amorebieta and Maarten Stekelenburg all got plenty of minutes with their new teammates under their belts and it was great to see Ashkan Dejagah back and flying down the wings following his recovery from ankle ligament damage suffered at the end of last season.

In Bremen, we are likely to see much of the same as Martin Jol looks to give players a chance to rise to prominence ahead of the first game of the new season - away at Sunderland on 17th August - and before they head off for another training camp at altitude in Austria.

Our previous meeting with Bremen came three years ago at the Cottage and ended in a comprehensive 5-1 win. Zoltan Gera grabbed a quick-fire second half hat-trick, and a repeat performance on German soil would be most welcome.

Of the current Fulham squad, four players have experience of the German Bundesliga: Dimitar Berbatov (Bayer Leverkusen), Derek Boateng (FC Cologne), Ashkan Dejagah (VfL Wolfsburg), and Sascha Riether, who represented three sides during his time playing in his homeland. Former Fulham striker Karl-Heinz Riedle also made almost 100 appearances for Bremen during his playing career, while Paul Stalteri made his name at Bremen before moving to Tottenham Hotspur and joining us on loan for the second half of the 2007/08 season.

The opposition

The club are one of the most successful in Germany - historically the top club in northern Germany - and have been a mainstay in the Bundesliga for many years. They have won the German title on four occasions, while also picking up the DfB-Pokal trophy six times, but have slipped down the pecking order in recent seasons, finishing 14th last campaign and ninth the season before.

During the early 2000s, the club were seen as one of the best sides in Germany and won an incredible double in 2004. They have a history of European success which has included winning the 1992 Cup Winners' Cup and 1998 Intertoto Cup; they also got to the Final of the last ever UEFA Cup – a 2-1 extra-time defeat to Ukrainian club Shakhtar Donetsk in 2009.

Their pre-season to date has not yielded particularly strong results, as they suffered a 1-0 defeat to Third Division opponents Osnabruck and were held to a draw by Second Division 1860 Munich. Since then they have lost 3-2 to both FC Zwolle and Ajax Amsterdam.
The Manager

Coach Robin Dutt has only recently taken over as manager - replacing Thomas Schaaf after 14 years at the helm - and has the job of leading the side into the 2013/14 season having spent 2011/12 with Leverkusen and a spell as the Sporting Director of the German Football Association (DFB).

Reacting to recent criticism, he told the Weser Kurier: "It can take up to a year to perfect a new system. That doesn't mean that we're not going to win a game in that time, but I know from my own experience that you need this time before your system is fully set up. You can only get there by repeating things over and over again in training.

"Our aim is to lay the foundations so that we will not be playing a season like the last one again in the future."

Players to watch

Nils Petersen: The Germany Under-21 international striker was not able to break into the Bayern Munich first team, so signed for Bremen this summer and will be looking to prove himself in the coming season. A loan spell in Bremen saw him net 11 league goals from 26 appearances last campaign, so more of the same will be expected now he is fully settled, and his physical presence will give our defence much to think about.
Eljero Elia: After beginning his career at Martin Jol's old club ADO Den Haag, the Dutch winger impressed at FC Twente before making the move to Germany with Hamburg. Juventus came calling, but Elia landed back in the Bundesliga in July 2012 after finding first team football hard to come by in Turin. With pace to burn and some silky skills on the ball, the midfielder will look to cause us problems down the flanks.
Clemens Fritz: Every club needs a stalwart who will give everything for the cause and the 32-year-old right-back fits the bill so well that he has the honour of captaining Bremen. At the club since 2006, he was selected for the Germany team that travelled to Euro 2008 although has not made a contribution at international level since. His experience and cool head under pressure will be key to the Bremen defence.
Magic Numbers

8 - The number of goals scored in pre-season by Fulham so far.

11 – The league goals scored by both Nils Petersen and Aaron Hunt, to finish as joint-top scorers in 2012/13.

14 – Both the league position of Bremen last season and also the number of years since they did worse in the German Bundesliga.

20 – The number of points gained by Werder Bremen at home in the 2012/13 Bundesliga season.

33 – The total number of games started in the league made by loanee Kevin de Bruyne last season; he has since returned to Chelsea.

66 – The number of goals conceded by Werder Bremen in the 2012/13 Bundesliga season.

40,639 – The average attendance at the Weser-Stadion last season.

Stalteri's Bremen Insight

Former Fulham loanee Paul Stalteri enjoyed great success during his seven years on Werder Bremen's books – most notably when they won the League and Cup double in 2004. Now retired, the Canadian defender looks back on his time in Germany and gives Fulham fans an insight into what they can expect from our friendly match on Sunday.

Title winners
Bremen were really successful in the late 80s/early 90s with their old coach Otto Rehhagel and then, when he left for Bayern Munich, they had a transitional period where they weren't really settled for a number of years. They went through a bunch of coaches and then finally settled on Thomas Schaaf who has just left after 14 seasons in charge.

Under him we started to build a team and then from year to year we got better and stronger. It got to a point where we had a really good team and got onto a great run in that 2003/04 season - I think we had a 23 game unbeaten run - and we ended up winning it [the Bundesliga], so that was pretty special. If I remember, I was suspended for one game, other than that I was an ever-present, but missing just one game out of 34 isn't bad.

It was a good season for me - the team picks itself when you keep winning games as it makes it pretty easy for the manager at that time because you don't need to change much. We had guys scoring goals every game which always helps, so it was a great team really.

Lasting memories
We were the first team in the Club's history to win the double so we had a great relationship with the fans. Next year it will be 10 years since we achieved that but, without a doubt, the fans love the team, they loved the players - we had some real characters that a lot of them really took to - and winning always helps. Before I went there, if you'd have said that I'd come away with a winner's medal in one of the major leagues in all of Europe then I would have signed off on that in a heartbeat!

It's one of my fondest, if not my fondest, moment at club level over in Europe. They were my first team, my home team in a way, I learnt my trade there when I was young. I'd just turned 20 and it was my first club in Europe so it will always remain really special to me and it's obviously a club that I continue to watch all the time. I follow all the clubs that I've played for and Bremen is probably one that I hold dearest just because it's the longest time I spent at one club and the cups I won there. I'm still in contact with a lot of the guys from that era too.

The current squad
To be honest, they're in a transitional period at the moment. They have a lot of young players and one or two of their best players have left. Kevin De Bruyne was on loan from Chelsea last season and did well, but he's gone back now. The Greece international Sokratis Papastathopoulos has left to join Borussia Dortmund, so they've lost a couple of their players.

They hired a new Sporting Director around February/March of last season, and then Thomas Schaaf left at the end of the season as well, so they brought in a new coach whose name is Robin Dutt. So it's all completely new. The team, to be honest, will be a completely different setup to what it's been in the last 12 or 14 seasons. We're waiting and seeing. They just got a new midfield player in from Freiburg [Cédric Makiadi] who cost a few million, so it's a team that's in transition. Probably the only one left from when I was there is Aaron Hunt (pictured), so it's a completely new team and they'll be building again for next season. Because of all the changes, both with upper management and player personnel, who knows what to expect for the team next year.

Strength of the Bundesliga
I think the German league is stronger now than it was back then, without a doubt. I think by the time I'd come to Germany it was in a bit of a transitional period; the league, the country, the national team. I think they were relying on a lot of experienced, older players. But I made my debut with Bremen at 22 and I was considered a young player at the time. The emphasis has completely changed now to a younger generation of players, with the focus on that. There are many more technical teams with a lot more pace involved in the league so there's no question that the league is stronger now than it's probably ever been.

The Weser-Stadion
They changed it when I was there - they initially had a running track when I was first around, and that always hurts the atmosphere a bit. That's gone now and the stadium has sort of squared off and they've done a really fantastic job and made it into more of a typical English arena type stadium. It's about 43,000 capacity now if I remember right so it's not massive compared to some German stadiums. It's pretty tight, so although it's the same stadium, it feels like a completely new one and it's made the atmosphere much better for games than it has ever been before.

Living in Germany
It's a fantastic place to live and raise a family. The Germans are very well organised, the schools are very good, and just the country and the way it operates is very efficient. There are some great restaurants and great pubs so there were always a lot of fun things to do.

Tour guide
The walk up to the Weser-Stadion is always very nice on a summer day. There are one or two pubs on the way up along the water which I'm sure the Fulham fans would be welcomed into. If they've got some more time prior to the game, or even after, the best part of the city, if it's a nice sunny day, is a place called the Schlachte. There's a bunch of pubs and restaurants on this one strip which is right on the river. That's probably your best bet in terms of sitting outside and enjoying a nice beer or two. It's usually pretty full on a summer evening though.

Plumain has previously played for France's U16 set up.

Fulham have captured Ange-Freddy Plumain on a free transfer after his contract ran out at French side RC Lens.

The midfielder made 22 appearances for the French side last season in Ligue 2 and has previously represented France at Under 16 level.

An official Fulham statement reads: "The club is delighted to announce the signing of Ange-Freddy Plumain on a contract until 30th June 2016, with an option to extend for another year."

Plumain is set to spend a year with Fulham's development squad before any real decisions on his future are made.
