We are actually an incredibly well run club behind the scenes. One of the best run clubs in the league financially, and thanks to Al-fayed for that. We spend big when we have to, I feel that the board are slightly nervous to back Jol as he hasn't exactly shone in the market when he was given money. Richardson and rodsellga are examples of this (rodaellga is on big wages despite being a free transfer). I am sure if he starts winning games and getting the team to play well his way he will be backed significantly to ensure we progress. Should he not, well then we will back someone else.

I understand that people are frustrated that we haven't spent big and backed Jol but I think he needs to earn that backing.

Also we have to take into account that with a maximum capacity of 25,000 it isn't financially sustainable to be handing out giant wage packets and large transfer fees. Its all very well throwing money at a players but it won't make a good team, QPR are the prime example of this. Lets not do what they did.

I am happy with the way the board are running the club as of this point, I hope we can sign two new faces too add to the team before the window shuts, but I don't want to see us throwing our money around to see it bite us in the backside.

Well reasoned response. I had not considered this may be the club not fully backing Jol after our fairly miserable free fall at the end of the season.

No, but I'd have at least expected us to have addressed the problems from last year by now, and invested 10 million quid doing so. Pocket change in todays game but no, we're doing our usual, doing it on the cheap and very late doors.

Don't forget that our owner has hundreds of millions tied up in his NFL franchise.  He might be the third richest owner in the Prem, but that doesn't mean his investment in the club is the third highest.  

My guess is that Khan hasn't changed the transfer strategy for this summer since he's come in.  From a business point of view that makes sense, he can take time to learn how our club works and how to improve it while relying on our previous model for the time being.  He is assuming that the transfer strategy that we currently have in place will keep us in the Prem.

I'm not too certain how much has actually changed in the club structure notwithstanding we do have a new owner.

As discussed many time over on this MB, Jol may be at fault for not getting (what most of us presume) is the best of what we currently have, but if there is a blockage up the line concerning requests, then Jol is in an untenable position, and an unfair one, whereas he cannot get the players he really needs in because the board won't release funds until he does better with what he has.

What, though, would be the excuse should he (by some miracle) actually achieve better results with what he has? I would go out on a limb and suggest the board would then tell him he's doing well and doesn't need any further money for players. So, a no win situation from that perspective, and the team grows, like the rest of us, wearily older.

It is easy to talk of "penny pinching on fees" when it is not your money. The Premiership has had a series of clubs who have over-spent and been relegated. By contrast, under MAF we were responsibly managed and, given his track record of business success, I'd be surprised if that doesn't continue under Mr Khan.

Bearing in mind that Khan is new not just to Fulham, not just to the Premiership, but as far as I can see to soccer, and had not even met Jol before buying the Club, my guess is that he will feel his way gradually. He will surely be aware how competitive the Premiership is, and won't want to see us relegated in his first season as owner. But I'd be amazed if he effectively handed Jol a blank cheque at this stage. I think that, whether or not we make any signings over the next few weeks, he'll expect to see Jol getting the team playing with enthusiasm and purpose. If he does, he will surely back him in the transfer market in January.

Have I missed something?
Has the transfer window closed already or have you been to see a clairvoyant?
I suspect that like me you have not a clue as to how much is going to be spent in this window.
As far as I am aware three of the top four clubs from last season have spent a pittance, for them, at the moment but I would be sure that will change before the end of the window.
Like it or not the majority of deals are done in the last week - it might seem to be a stupid idea - but that it how it happens.
So take a pill and wait to see what happens before you pass judgement on the new owners financial dealings.
If no rabbit comes out of the hat by the time the window closes on Monday September 02 - we can all have a good moan.
I can't think that someone who has just spent so much money buying our club is going to let it sink for the want of a few millions.

Sadly not much has changed with new ownership, yet. I think with the friendlies out of the way, Jol can show the warts this team has and hopefully the board will listen.

We don't want nearly anything, we just need some improvements in some key areas. Not talking about a total overhaul of the club, just a couple of positions, and we will be a easy top 10 team. We all expected some investment in the team by Khan, and yes, it will take time for it to happen. We were the only club going through an ownership change, but time is running out. 20 days of the window left, we need to get a move on.

One thing I don't get, and maybe this deserves its own thread, is why are we having such a hard time finding a creative, attacking CM. Tarabaat is pretty good and taking him on loan was smart, however I find it hard to believe he is the best we can do. If I was a young CM that wanted to make a name for myself, I would see Fulham as a great opportunity to make a name for myself. Everybody wants first team action and if you can make plays, score goals, get assists, and attack defenses, there is plenty of that at Fulham.

Well reasoned response. I had not considered this may be the club not fully backing Jol after our fairly miserable free fall at the end of the season. 

I'd be very surprised if this was the case. Jol was Mackintosh's man and we waited to get him. The loan players he has bought to the club have been good and mainly came because of him. He had no money last season he inherited an old squad which was coming to end of life and we have had two reasonable mid table finishes.
If the club are not going to back the manager then they need to let him go otherwise you have the worst of both worlds. I'm sure when Hamburg were looking for a general Manager this summer Jol had a word with Mackintosh, the fact he's still here leads me to think he was given assurances that he was still wanted and  needed and the game plan was still in place.
