I reckon that Sunderland could be a surprise package this seaon, at least early on.

PDC gets the players super fit,  they have added ten new players and they have had time to gel with the existing ones.

I reckon we will have a very tough opener up there.

My prediction = an edgy 0-0.

I tend to agree that 0-0 seems the likely result and would be a decent start.
For me its also about the performance, I want to see a game plan in action on Saturday.

Sunderland 1-1 Fulham
Altidore to give them the lead, Berbatov to grab us a point late on

I think they may be unsettled with the amount of new players, most of which are poor so we may nick it 1-0. However, if we lose and haven't signed anyone it may be for the best to keep addressing the issues we can see.

Sadly she wasn't

Can't see us winning this one. Maybe a draw but more likely a loss. 1-0.

Sunderland 2 - Fulham 0

Sunderland score in the 42nd minute and 56th. We attack like crazy man in the last 20!!!!!

Lighthouse

I think 3-1 to the Mackems. I just don't see us creating enough chances to bother them. Would be good if we could.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Remember the final game of last season against Swansea? Nobody expected us to win. Albeit, a large part of that was down to how bad they played, but it's a shame we were written off before even kicking a ball.

Sunderland need time to gel. They've had such a huge influx of players, most with no premiership experience. Everyone is just getting used to Di Canio's bizzare pre-season rituals and training methods. We on the other hand, might not at the moment have a squad capable of massive things, but at least we're used to playing alongside each other, and can pull out a victory on occasion.

I'm calling it as 1-2 to us.

Keep the faith. COYW.

3-1 Sunderland. No creativity, 1 striker, no depth, no chance.

The Old Count

Whilst our play in the final third is, shall we say limited, I reckon our defense will be stronger.

Without signings I can see us doing a Norwich and drawing loads.  With a good striker and strong creative mid I can see us being top ten or better.

Without signings, same as last year. Rubbish, boring, dreary and ineffective football. With a creator at CM, along with Taarabt and a new ST, we will be much improved.

Can anyone give me odds on Ruiz picking up a knock in this weeks meaningless friendly and missing the game?  Must almost be odds on.

No.

Id love to win. But i cant see it. Same limp, impotent away side as the end of last season, why should i come on here and predict a win when i dont think it will happen?

Hopefully i am wrong

Rather he did. Not doing anything for us at the moment.

Taarabt will score.  First half will be awful.  Adel will come in around halftime and we will start gelling.

Hope I'm wrong, but I've neither seen nor heard anything to persuade me that the Club (read: Khan and the board) have made any material progress in addressing the squad's fundamental weaknesses, which have been evident for a year now. Sunderland have signed a boatload of new players identified/wanted by Di Canio, and Di Canio, despite his eccentricities and drama, appears to have at least generated a genuine esprit de corps and excitement among both players and supporters.

(Actually, half-tongue-in-cheek, there's a part of me which kinda sorta hopes that we don't nick a lucky point (or three), in the cynical belief that our newbie owner might very well be tempted to interpret such an apparently positive result as evidence that the squad doesn't require any further investment this season).
