Its not pointless if he scores 20 goals and helps get us into Europe

It is pointless when he's put us in Europe and next season were hunting for another striker. He's good striker but come on Fulham lets start building for the future

At which stage better strikers will want to join us as we're in Europe!

I have to laugh re: Bent, a lot of people didnt want him, and now that he's almost here they want him for longer

My assumption would be we have agreed a price to sign him permanently.

According to an article in the 'Thursday Fulham Stuff' thread, it's £2M for this season's loan (with us picking up the tab for his wages) plus a further £3M if we choose to buy.

On balance, I would say that this is preferable to paying £5M outright and giving him a three-year contract on 45/50k-a-week as it gives us more flexibility in 12 months' time.

Think 2million is a bit much for a loan if it doesn't pay off.
However I think he will be a success

that article seemed to be plucking figures out of the air. It not only claimed that Bent was on 75k p/w in also claimed we were paying all of that. Pretty much no chance much of it's true IMO.

I still feel it's just the club being stingy rather than some sort of transfer policy. However getting Taarabt and Bent on loan, provided both have options to buy permanently, has to be considered very good business.
Jol can't be too pleased with the way things are going though, I feel he won't stick around too much longer unless we start spending money to meet his ambitions and move forward.
Jol's reputation was damaged last season and he has a point to prove but if we do well this season the club will then have to persuade him to stay as he will have offers.

I think that has some truth to it Alfie. You have to think at the very least Burn, David, Mesca, and Kaca should make it to the first team. Not convinced by Trotta though. The forward area I think we're a bit light in at youth level. Dembele is very young, and Woodrow is still Raw

You can never tell. Burn looks promising, Mesca and David are rather unproven and Trotta should really have made the leap to playing on loan at a Championship club by this point, time running out for him.

Yh I agree, I was being lazy and haven't read the article. I was told Bent would be on 40k if he signed for us don't know how true that is. That was based on a perm deal.

So if he gets a shag one night is that a loan

No, that'd be a signing who "defects" in frustrating circumstances..

Initially it is viewed as heartbreak until we find out that Hull / QPR got her hooked on drugs and she ended up sleeping in Seven Sisters tube and begging for coins.

If he gets a shag it will be someone who was quite hot in her 20's but less attractive in her 50's.

No it is not. It´s cheapskating. It may look good in our accounts but it is not a progressive way forward, just a stopgap to appease us.

He's 20.  It's absurd to say that time is running out for him at this point.  When Didier Drogba was 20 he hadn't yet broken into his Ligue 2 team.  For all we know Trotta will be loaned to a Championship club this year and do well.

Sammyffc

if we get him on loan i expect from what ive heard we will have a 5mill clause. he is worth that . we all know it . if he performs we will pay it . simple as that

WolverineFFC

Maybe it has been mentioned, but I wonder if contract terms are the issue and not Fulham's desire to transfer the player or the fee.

Hence an agreed upon loan to buy with the club and player having more time to feel each other out, plus another year on the current contract expires without either player or club committing to a long term financial commitment.

There are risks, but hopefully the club realize without getting more quality players into the squad for 2013, they leave themselves vulnerable to injuries and/or last minute transfers (see Dempsey, Diarra, Dembele 2012...) torpedoing this season as well.

Count Berbatov

I see no problem in contracting players on loan with an option to buy. It's a tryout sort of, then buy or release if it didn't work. That's smart business if you ask me
Berbatov has Cantona's knack of being the man amid a stampede towards the door who stops to notice a side exit that nobody else has seen.

Loan deals are not bad.  Better than wasting money on aging players.  Use the loans to patchover while the young players coming through.  Its a great idea for rebuilding very cheaply.  Then invest in young players when the time is right.  But with teams like Southampton, Norwich, Sunderland spending big- there is big competition for players coming into Europe.
Getting Bent on loan is much better than paying money for  a guy like Andy Johnson or Eddie Johnson then being stuck with them.

Not really, he's a long way off and until he makes it in that league he won't even get a chance for us. Drogba is a one off. Not a standard case.
