Fulham fans furious over view blocked by TV camera in Arsenal derby defeat

Fulham owner and chairman Shahid Khan walks onto the Craven Cottage pitch before the match against Arsenal. A Premier League spokesman said the American "is trying to address" the restricted view issue.

Frustrated Fulham supporters expressed their anger at the first home game of the season after a new television camera position restricted views in the main Johnny Haynes Stand.

The camera, required as part of the bumper new television deal, was installed in front of the press box and season ticket holders who pay in the region of £750 for their seats.

Fans received an email on the eve of the first home Premier League game of the season, against Arsenal, informing that some seats would have a restricted view, but the reality was described as unacceptable by supporters.

Andrew Stanley, a season ticket holder for 35 years and a Fulham fan for 50 years, said: "It's totally intrusive, not just for people behind the gantry, but for people around it. Some people won't be able to see the goals.

"The point is to watch the game and it is going to take the centre of the pitch out.

"It needs to be in a better position. I understand that will be difficult, but it's not acceptable."

Barry Hurley, a Fulham fan for 54 years, added: "We sit here with all of our friends.

"I was told the reason was something to do with television and they needed to take pictures of those in the dugout, which doesn't seem to me to be of great importance."

Hurley was offered a move to the front of the stand, which, considering the torrential rain in London, did not appeal.

Camera positions are determined by the Premier League in collaboration with the clubs, but Craven Cottage, as an old stadium, presented particular challenges.

A Premier League spokesman said: "We introduced new rules regarding the number and position of cameras.

"There are clearly always going to be issues at a ground like Craven Cottage; a fantastic old ground.

"It has limitations that the new owner [Shahid Khan] is trying to address."

A Fulham spokesperson said: "To adhere to the broadcast regulations imposed by the Premier League we had to find a credible solution for a camera position that was a requirement.

"We understand it may have caused some issues for supporters and we will look to deal with those individuals to find a solution."

BT Sport broadcast the match. It said in a statement: "BT doesn't decide where cameras are placed at Premier League football grounds, but we always try to minimise the impact of them for fans at the match.

"We're sorry if any fans at Craven Cottage are upset by the camera position, but hope that thousands of Fulham and Arsenal supporters, who couldn't make it to the match, enjoyed the game on BT Sport."

A Public Telling Off!

I guess there are correct and incorrect ways of telling a team-mate what to do.

I`d say doing it in full view of 25,000 paying spectators falls into the latter category.

However, Dimitar Berbatov is a bit of a maverick character and yesterday, against Arsenal, he appeared to give our on-loan signing, Adel Taarabt, a fearful verbal volley.

But, far from making an issue of it after the game, Martin Jol had this to say about the incident,

"We saw Berbatov wasn`t happy with something but we are used to that. What I saw from Taarabt is that he is a top player."

"He knows he has to play for Berbatov too and we can expect a lot from both players. Taarabt is doing different things that we didn`t see before so I am happy he is here."

He might be but I`m starting to side with the pundits who fear that having the pair of them in the same side leaves the other with a lot of running around to do to counteract the opposition when they attack!

Senderos Has a Pop!

Out of favour, so far this term, our Swiss international centre back might have done himself no favours with a very public outburst.

With rumours emanating that Senderos is looking to exit Craven Cottage, the centre back has had a few things to say about our defending last season, defending that saw us concede the same amount of goals as relegated Queens Park Rangers did, 60, with Philppe remarking,

"Defending was a problem for us."

"We conceded too many goals."

"I like going up-field, but I think we seldom defended well as a team."

"We need to play higher up the park, and not let ourselves be pushed back."

"Our attacking players also need to defend better - because if they don`t we have a difficult time."

Time to start your engine mate, you could be off!

Capital One Cup Tips: Fulham and QPR in for cup shocks

Lewis Jones goes in search of some Capital One Cup value and fancies some lower league clubs to grab the headlines...

Burton v Fulham, Tuesday 19:45, Match Odds: Burton 7.6, Fulham 1.58, The Draw 3.8

There's always one Premier League side that struggle at this stage of the League Cup. Although Fulham should really be seeing this cup competition as a chance to bring some silverware to west London, in reality, it's probably viewed as more of a nuisance by boss Martin Jol. Sustaining their presence in the Premier League is a priority and if Jol decides to rest some of his big guns, the options in reserve aren't exactly brimming with talent or good recent form. Philippe Senderos is a prime example of the calibre of players Fulham have as back-up. They are potentially vulnerable to any side that are playing with confidence, and Burton certainly fit that bill. Under manager Gary Rowett, Albion are a rising force in League Two and have started the new campaign with some sparkling performances. The former Derby full-back has an impressive 45% win ratio since taking the reins in 2012. He can lead his side to a result in front of a packed house.

Best Bet: Lay Fulham to win @ 1.59

Barclays U18 Premier League: Fulham Maintain Good Form At Arsenal Expense

Highly rated Dan Crowley grabbed his first goal for Arsenal but that couldn't help them going down 4-2 at home to Fulham.

Leander Siemann grabbed their other strike but goals from Moussa Dembele, Jordan Evans and a George Williams brace saw Fulham maintain their 100% record on the way to defending their title.

15-year-old Tammy Abraham was on the scoresheet as Chelsea defeated London rivals West Ham. George Cole scored their other goal.

Jorge Intima's goal just after half-time and an own goal from Sunderland gave Manchester City a 2-0 victory over the Black Cats.

Selected members of Liverpool's Under 18 squad traveled across the Atlantic to take part in the Newark Liberty International Soccer Summit. Those who stayed back home saw a Nathan Burke penalty be the difference between them and their Merseyside rivals Everton, who missed a penalty late on in the game.

It's two wins out of two for Wolves, who beat Newcastle 2-1 on Saturday.

Elsewhere Reading beat Leicester, Blackburn beat Middlesbrough, Spurs beat Southampton and West Brom drew 0-0 at home to Norwich.

Watch out throughout the week on The Youth Radar for highlights and extended reaction from the weekend's games.

Premier League Best and Worst: Falling apart at Fulham

Worst indictment – Taraabt

Four minutes into his home debut for Fulham, Adel Taraabt tried a trick, botched it, gave the ball limply to Arsenal's Carl Jenkinson, then sat on the floor out of puff.

Portentously, that meant Dimitar Berbatov, his former Tottenham Hotspur colleague, had to track back to try to regain possession. It ended in a free kick for Arsenal and a flea in the ear for Taraabt.

If Berbatov, the famously insouciant Bulgarian, is questioning your work rate, then you must be struggling.

Fulham may have too many work-shy mavericks in their team, judging by the way they subsided at Craven Cottage to troubled Arsenal.

Martin Jol backs Darren Bent to force his way back into the England team

"With other players it's always a gamble but if you look at his record he scores goals," says Cottagers boss

Bent but not broken: Darren's England dreams aren't over, says Jol
Reuters

Martin Jol is sure Darren Bent will make up for lost time and force his way back into the England reckoning.

Bent came on as a sub for Fulham and marked his debut at Craven Cottage with a late consolation goal.

The 29-year-old fell out of the England frame after being frozen out at Aston Villa, but Fulham boss Jol says he will use his frustrations in a positive way to rebuild his career.

"If you take players when they're in a bad situation but know the potential, you always hope you're the one who will get the maximum out of that potential," said Jol.

"With other players it's always a gamble but if you look at his record he scores goals. Even when he's not playing he scores goals! When I was at Tottenham he scored nine and Jermain Defoe got 12 and I can't even remember Darren playing.

"His record at Aston Villa was at least one in three. If you play him regularly, one in two or one in one-and-a-half games."
