Our defence

Has looked awful the last few games, Hangeland has not had a good season either but we have certainly missed him over the last few weeks, at the start of the season we had Hughes & Hangeland in a good defensive performance at Sunderland.

Against Swansea hopefully our back 4 will be

Zverotic Hughes Hangeland Amorebieta

For me Richardson & Senderos have never been good enough & changes are needed

The problem with our defence is the lack of central midfield shielding them. Centre backs are having to do an almost impossible job right now with absolutely no help from full backs nor central midfield. Our wingers are pretty poor defensively too.

A midfield in front of them of

Dejagah Boateng Parker Kasami

All hard working will give us a decent chance of being solid,  both Sidwell & Parker leave gaps Boateng will just sit there & break up play we need him

Good job you don't pick the team, are you Jol in disguise?

I,ve seen worse combinations on here

What's worrying is that today's Sunday People states that Riether wants to go back to Germany in next transfer window as he is missing his partner and a couple of Bundesliga clubs are showing interest.

Is our dodgy defence about to get weaker?

He hasn't been the player he was last year, but it will be a loss.

As for the defence, it really needs a player to just sit and cover.  Take the ball off the defence and shunt it forwards a few yards, and just stay put.  Not two "defensive" players charging up field with no real regard for covering.  And that's the problem, there is no partnership.  If either/or Parker and Sidwell sat while the other went forwards that would be fine.  But both either sit back or attack at the same time.  Maybe a midfield three of say, Boateng, Parker and Sidwell.  With Boa protecting and the other two doing what the hell they want to.  Would also mean that any lack of wing width could be counter-acted by the full backs pressing on with the extra cover from a sitting Boateng.

Right now we have defensive players, but no defense to speak of.

There are some great points here - Senderos and Richardson not being good enough are spot on. They are about League 1 level footballers. You replace them with 2 premier league footballers and I think you would find that these weakest link players would take a lot of pressure off the rest of the players on the pitch. I have been apprehensive of slagging Amor, even though he's been poor, but he surrounded by mutts.

And Jol should take blame, but if you replace those 2 defenders, we are comfortably 12th/13th in the league. And apparently we don't have the money or we have a clueless owner. We'll find out soon enough.

It doesn't matter who is back there. We don't even know how to defend a set piece. There's no cohesion. We are an untouched, unmanaged team.

The constant slagging of Senderos, Richardson, Hangeland, Hughes, and now Amorebieta is not justified, nor is it addressing the cause of the problem.

When Dembele and Dempsey left?
