Berbatov linked with Newcastle

Newcastle could be ready to turn their attentions to Dimitar Berbatov as Alan Pardew looks to sign a new striker.

Pardew has made signing a new striker one of his top priorities of the transfer window and is reported to have joined the race for Berbatov, who wants out of Fulham. The Cottagers are having a difficult season battling against relegation and Berbatov's agent has recently revealed his client wants out of Craven Cottage in January. There will be no shortage of interest in the Bulgarian but it is thought he would prefer to stay in the Premier League and a move to Newcastle would no doubt appeal.

Fulham now favourites to sign Manchester United forward

Fulham's results haven't improved massively since the new man took charge and we always felt that it was fairly risky bringing him in. Yes he served under one of the greatest managers of all time and he would have to be fairly dense not to have picked up a huge amount from the great man in his 12 years at Manchester United.

But the same could be said of Brian Kidd, who left the club to take the helm at Blackburn Rovers and took them straight down to The Championship, without so much as a whimper. Mike Phelan is now being touted as the next West Brom manager in, what we think, would be a suicidal move for the club.

But it's not all doom and gloom. Rene Meulensteen is an intelligent man who was highly regarded as a coach, in his own right, at Manchester United. In our view he's a safer bet than the other two because he seems like man with strong football philosophy.

With his first window as Fulham manager coming up he will surely want to invest. Furthermore, he will surely use his contacts at Manchester United to bring some of their peripheral players to the club.

We have already heard rumours about Anderson joining the club and now SkyBet has installed Fulham as favourites to sign Ashley Young in the winter window.

The England winger has fallen out of favour at Manchester United after a very average spell of form this season. Rumours are rife that he may be surplus to requirements at Old Trafford. SkyBet have made Fulham favourites for his signature at odds of 8/1.

He would surely represent an excellent signing for the club as they look to expunge themselves from the drop zone.

Berbatov scuppers loan advances

Fulham striker Dimitar Berbatov has made his position clear to the west London club as a result of several inquiries being lodged - notably from West Ham.

The former Manchester United striker was one of the many names on the Hammers target list this January but the player has given them and all others an immediate thumbs down.

The 32-year-old Bulgarian has forged a special relationship with the fans at Craven Cottage and made it clear to the club's management he wants to stay and help score the goals to ease the club from relegation danger.

The front man scored 18 goals for the club last season and has managed four in what has been a very poor first half of the campaign for the team.

The Hammers - along with several other relegation threatened-clubs - have made their interest known but Berbatov will not be moving.

A source said: "He's a target but has no desire to go anywhere."

What a bizarre article
Watching the ups and downs since 1958, wouldn't have it any other way, what a roller coaster of a club.

Fulham boss Rene Meulensteen focused on relegation battle and not players' contracts

Rene Meulensteen has admitted that contract talks for his players are not a priority as he concentrates on Fulham's fight for survival.

Aaron Hughes, 34, has a deal at Craven Cottage which expires at the end of the season, while fellow defender Philippe Senderos will also be out of contract in the summer and is reportedly attracting interest from other clubs.

However, new boss Meulensteen does not want to think about their long-term futures at the current time as he is only concerned about the club's Premier League plight.

"We have a big battle on our hands so that's not one of our priorities," Meulensteen said, quoted in The Sun.

Fulham are second from bottom in the league after losing 4-1 to Everton on Saturday, but Meulensteen believes there were plenty of lessons to be learned from the Goodison Park game.

He said: "The first half we just didn't get going but we had some words at half-time and I thought we were brilliant for 25 minutes after the break.

"We were positive, we pressed them. A couple of our lads had chances and we improved.

"I think Everton are bursting with confidence after recent results and they took their chances.

"We can do better and we will learn from this. We will certainly continue to work hard."

QPR boss has plans for Taarabt

No way back for midfielder regardless of what Fulham say - Redknapp

Adel Taarabt has been told to find another club if Fulham no longer want the QPR loanee.

New Whites boss Rene Meulensteen has promised the midfielder a fresh start despite a lack lustre showing since he joined in the summer.

That might be just as well after Tarrabt's parent club made it plain there was no way back – even if the Whites were to change their mind.

The Moroccan international was told to pack his bags at Rangers pre-season training camp by boss Harry Redknapp, and the man in charge was anything but the season of goodwill towards his own player last night.

The manager said: "I just want good lads who go to bed early and get up in the morning; come to training and earn their thousands of pounds a week – thats not asking too much.

"I want those that think of other people who don't earn a fiftieth of what they earn.

"Adel's at Fulham. They're in trouble and Adel's not playing, and that must be disappointing.

"Maybe he's got to find himself another club. Whether we take him back or not is debatable."

Under the terms of the loan, both clubs must agree before ripping it up. Taarabt has made three Premier League starts for Fulham, scoring just the once against Burton in the Capital Cup.

Asked whether any return to Loftus Road might spur the 24-year-old might bring a conciliation, Harry was dismissive.

"Would he get the message back here at QPR?" the manager said. "He went to Fulham and I don't know if he got the message there."

Winter Warmer

At the beginning of the 2013/14 season, Fulham Football Club announced that, for the second year running, the Club has partnered with Shooting Star CHASE as the Official Charity Partner for the season.

As the first fundraising event for the season, the Club are working with Shooting Star CHASE to co-ordinate a Winter Warmer 10k Fun Run on Sunday 2nd February 2014, with the funds raised to benefit both Shooting Star CHASE and the Fulham FC Foundation.

Whether you are a committed athlete, a social runner or if you plan on over-indulging this Christmas, this event caters for all abilities and features the latest chip-timing technology, a t-shirt and the all important medal for successfully completing the run.  The picturesque route is planned to take in a number of scenic views along the way, including Craven Cottage, Bishops Park, Hammersmith and Putney Bridges and, of course, the River Thames.

Entry to the charity run is £18 and we would like to encourage fans to get involved and sign up here to raise money for two very worthy causes.

Shooting Star CHASE is a children's hospice charity that works with families of children and young people with life-limiting conditions. Their goal is to simply make every day count for families with a child or teenager that is unfortunately not expected to reach their 19th birthday.

That's kind of cruel. Hope they stay down. Taarabt is a fine player and his attitude even on the bench has been top notch

Berbatov has Cantona's knack of being the man amid a stampede towards the door who stops to notice a side exit that nobody else has seen.

Jonathan Northcroft on Berbatov:  "...like a man in silk pyjamas shooting pigeons from a deckchair"
