My Thoughts

Firstly the Sunderland game, I thought we played well till they scored against the run of play and although that gave them confidence I still don't think we were terrible. It was good too see the the half time talk seemed to motivate us giving us a goal but at 2-1 down we had to do something to win the game but it did not work. Berbatov, Senderos & Riise and perhaps Stockdale's for the first goal didn't help. Take nothing away from Sunderland they played very well.
I would rather lose 1-4 showing a will to get back into the game than lose 0-2 not showing any fight at all.

I didn't think Taarabt was a good signing for us but have changed my mind over the last couple of weeks, I would buy him now (Harry would bite our hands off to get rid) at a cheap price allowing us to get another loan player with Premiership experience in this window (central defender my choice - Lescott?).
Like most people on here I would like to see a decent left back (Bertrand?) and a striker (Long?).

I think our main aim should be just to survive this season and rebuild in the summer, meanwhile lets keep faith in our new management team afterall we are only 4 points from 10th place although we have some hard matches coming up and there are 4 teams below us.

Good post.

It was going behind - again - that did for us.

We were doing OK up to then, and should have been in front, but once we were chasing the game....and we were playing the ref as well.

And then they hit us on the break in second half , when we were going for an equalizer.

But agree that there was much to be positive about  with this display, as generally under Rene, but i hope he and the team can overcome the psychological effects of again losing at home, and think they will. I feel positive that we will  escape the drop and move up the table.

We just need to put the ball in the net first, it may be a better end result if we was to maybe....?

View of the match, we are simply too slow in attack.  We do not press forward as quickly as we should and it allows the opposition defense to organize.  Maybe its the age of the team or too much concern for defending.  We simply do not have that lighting attack that the top teams possess.
I played in the first match I ever saw!

If Berbatov had taken those two early chances things would have been so different. At least we tried to get back into the game - its always a gamble but preferable. I used to hate going behind under Tigana, we would just concede the game and save energy for the next game when we did.
At 2-1 down I thought we would go on and get an equaliser but there you go.
Our defence is poor right now - I'm not impressed with Senderos or Amorabiata and Riether is getting on and needs to be reoplaced at 60-70 minutes as he gets skinned by younger wingers in that time slot.

Life is full of ifs and buts...

If only we had not conceded two soft goals in the first half.

If only we had not fell for that sucker punch of a third they got, as up until that point we had them on the ropes and I was convinced we would get something out of it.

All roads lead back to the defence. We actually are still playing quite well, better than anything under Jol, but with a keeper that is perhaps not there yet and a back line that are a shambles we will always be vulnerable. All successful teams have a strong defence. We used to have this. Time to fix it.

When we kicked off against Sunderland the ball was passed back straightaway. It then took over a minute before anyone attempted to play the ball into our opponent's half. The thought 'here we go again' came to mind.
