We shouldn't judge Magath on his team selections

Just watching MOTD2 and Guy Mowbray told how a Fulham fan said yesterday that after looking at the team yesterday, Magath isn't the guy he wanted.

What we need to remember, is that Magath (and Mulensteen to an extent) were playing football TO STAY UP, rather than what they wanted to play. Look at Roy Hodgson, the football we played under him in 08/09/10 was completely different to his first few months in charge. Add to the fact that they weren't his players, there were limited things he could do
@MattRhys63 - be warned, there will be a lot of nonsense

Dan Burn at right back says it all.  He is a nutter.  P1ss him off now.

he said in his post match interview he put burn right back because he is tall and wanted a different approach and dropped sascha because of last week . how do we know dan burn doesn't actually play rb in training sometimes ? u never know . I've seen it happen before with other clubs

He looked like a giraffe on roller skates from the first minute.  We could all see it.  Why wouldn't he just swap Heitinga over there?   It was madness and we all know it.  Playing all those defenders last week was criminal.  hen the double substitution that didn't include Sidwell when we could all see he could hardly walk.  Hes a nutter.

He prepared a team to face Tony Pulis' Stoke only to be confronted by Sparky's Stoke which is a completely different thing. And by the way he could have played Heitinga at right back (nonsense as well, but slightly less stupid than putting Burn there) if he really wanted to punish Sascha that bad (which I don't understand AT ALL in our situation). He is completely out of his depth and he will be even more exposed in the championship. We need a manager with the know how of the league.

Viva el Fulham!

Craven Mad

Burn (our tallest and possibly least mobile player [who is a great CB]) at RB and Holtby (our only creative outlet [and best CM]) at RW, Bent (doesn't run [who's useless everywhere]) as a sole-striker.

Odd, odd selection..

Wasn't ever going to work and isn't going to endear himself to the fans. If we didn't have our whole squad, Cauley, Grimmer, Passley, David etc, should have been called in.

                Stock
Passley-Heit-Burn-Richardson
           Diarra - Sid
 Roberts - Holtby - Dejagah
               Cauley

Bench: Jorenen, Grimmer, Riise, Parker, David, Kaca, Mitrog

Why didn't we just do something like that..

terryr

It isn't the manager's fault.
Our players didn't play well.
The team is old and past it.
The youngsters are not ready- THEY ARE NOT.
Give him a chance. Let him build his own team.
That's it.
Stop pointing fingers. The bottom line is we've had no defence all year. How many goals did we concede?
We have no proven striker.
The team put together by Jol wasn't up to it.
Rene didn't really improve things ( remember the 6 goal thumping from Hull?)
Its a dismal season over with.
The next year will tell us all we need to know about Felix

The Cravenette

It was clear v early on that poor Burn is no right back. Heltinger was speaking to Felix as they went off at HT and was definitely trying to get a point across. I was sure Burn and Helt would be swapped over for the 2nd half, but no. It was a disaster and typical of the season.

We should judge a manager by the team they pick and playing positions they choose. Yesterday was not a good day for the team or the manager.

I still think we should see what he can do next season.

I too think that it's difficult to think of Magath in any other way after the team selection and substitutions these last two weeks.

He is indeed a nutter. A desperate nutter who has (or had) no idea what to do next.

Felix will be here next season and start to build a new squad. By Christmas he will be gone if we are struggling and we will go for a manager we should have gone for now.

This is Fulham. The club that takes three seasons to see what the fans can see in one game.
The above IS NOT A LEGAL DOCUMENT. It is an opinion.

We may yet hear the horse talk.

I can stand my own despair but not others hope

Artful Dodger

The more I think about it, the less I think Magath is the right man for the job. Yesterday's decision to play Burn at right back was the final straw really in some bizarre decisions in the last couple of months. For me, the best teams have consistency in selection but with Magath, it is like he picks the team at random. For example Woodrow makes his debut in another 'must win' game at Cardiff, plays one or two more and then disappears. Then Dembele plays one game against Everton and disappears. He doesn't play Dejagah from the start when he has been our best player in recent weeks.

I can't see any rhyme or reason to what he is trying to do and for that reason my confidence in him building a winning team in a league he has no experience of is pretty low.

No move him out now. Clueless. Not his fault that we don't have the players but the selection certainly is. Maybe he should have tried something different like putting Burn in goal as he is tall

The thing some people have to understand is, by defending Magath does not mean you are being loyal to Fulham.

You must purely want what is BEST for Fulham, and it has been shown Magath is not that.  Rene Muelensteen's Fulham played some FANTASTIC football, and he was in the same position as Magath.  I would have the board eat 'humble pie' and bring RM back with Curbs, and these two knowledgeable exponents would serve us well in our quest to bounce back!

The one thing we need is an element of consistency. We are going to have the biggest upheaval of staff this club has known.

Pluto

Playing Burn at right back is absolutely unforgivable. Felix's tactics and team selections have been even more bizarre than Jol and Meulensteen's put together. It was the most important game for many years yesterday and we gave the worst performance of the season. The man is clueless.

His clearly not tactically adept and he's clearly not a motivator, so what exactly does Felix bring? He needs to go and we need a manager in who understands English football.

Yes, I particularly enjoyed the 0-6 Hull drubbing, and the 1-4 to the bottom side was much fun.
