Totally legitimate attempt (successful) by Neuer to punch the ball clear. I wouldn't even term it 50/50 as the goalkeeper was clear favourite to win it (because he can use his hands!).

The positioning of the knee is coached into keepers, for their own protection and, shall we say, to allow least convenience for the challenger. The bit about centres of gravity sounds like a neat piece of b/s to me, but may well be right - I'm not too hot on aeronautical dynamics.

To compare in any way what Neuer did with Schumacher's assault on Battiston is close to insulting. The ball was well past Schumacher when he 'banjoed' the unfortunate Frenchman, [The ref gave a goalkick!]
