This is not necessarily based on how good the players were -- although all are at least serviceable -- but they were just players whose names I always looked for on the Saturday team sheet. Note: I only go back to the 2003-04 season.

Keeper: David Stockdale
RB: Moritz Volz [surprise to nobody]
CB: Aaron Hughes
CB: Brede Hangeland
LB: Carlos Salcido
CM pairing: Dickson Etuhu and Danny Murphy
Wide Mids: Simon Davies and Steed Malbranque
Withdrawn Striker: Clint Dempsey
#9: Brian McBride

Bench:

Van der Sar, Bocanegra, Jensen, Goma, Pearce, Duff, Nevland

Gaffer: Cookie Coleman

I used to look for Eddie Johnson on the team sheet because he was American and I wanted him to breakthrough (not that he seemed like he would anyway). but my biased preferences don't really say much.

subs robbie herrera, ray houghton, dembele (senior), leggatt, stockdale, saha, bary hales,

in years to come i expect chris david, and pat roberts to feature if they aren't sold off too soon.
Best and moore do not feature as their best years were really elsewhere although Moore rated as straight out of the top draw for us!

...there is not enough room to add all the substitutes that these names would constitute. Langley and Leggat I sadly missed out on seing, VDS was a great shot stopper but I felt he didn't organise his defence well enough, George Cohen was a great stopper as a defender, but his passing let him down. Lee Clark and Brede and Murphy I would love to have added but as mentioned not enough room, Morgs had a great heart and is a legend, but not better in my view to those I chose, the same goes for Boa, not consistent enough, Steed great with tha ball but not so great at passing and his corners were atrocious, McBride is a another with a great heart and I love him to bits - but he is not a 'great' in my view. All about opinions and mixed with skill and personal favourites. One player I realised I missed, who should, at the very least be on my subs bench, is Stan Brown, you could put him anywhere and he was quietly fantastic, the ultimate utility player...

Perhaps you should have Stan Brown in your team instead of Les Barrett  ?

Malbranque, Dembele, Murphy, Boa Morte
Zamora, Saha

Subs: Niemi, Hughes, Diop, Dempsey, Duff, Berbatov, McBride
