Fulham set to name manager AND add director of football

Two at the Whites top providing Symons gets the job

This way: Symons directs operations.
Kit Symons is waiting on tenterhooks to see if he is the new permanent Fulham manager job while the club considers adding a director of football IF they award it to the caretaker boss.

GetWestLondon understands Alan Curbishley is in the frame to work with Symons should he get the nod. But the former Charlton manager is miffed at the treatment meted out to him in the disastrous spell when Rene Meulensteen took over last season.

Director? Alan Curbishley in discussion with Fulham CEO Alistair Mackintosh
Curbs and Ray Wilkins were brought in to shore up a sinking ship and were jettisoned just as quick when Meulensteen was released after just 74 days.

It's also understood ex-Premier League bosses Chris Hughton and Steve Clarke have been sounded out for the Fulham job, but although Danny Murphy has indicated it's nearing journey's end for he and the rest of the  five-man committee appointed to make the vital decision, they could delay the white smoke beyond the Whites clash with Norwich on Saturday.

ALMOST DONE: Manchester United to complete deal for Arsenal target

Manchester United are set to swoop for Fulham starlet Patrick Roberts next summer, according to Football League World.

The 17-year-old winger is highly-rated and is being pursued by a number of top-flight clubs.

Roberts, who can operate as a winger or a striker has a contract that lasts until 2016 at Craven Cottage, and Fulham are set to demand a sizeable transfer fee for the talented youngster.

The Football league prodigy starred in a few of Fulham's Premier League games at the end of last season, and his impressive cameo appearances caught the eye.

Roberts recently played in an England under-19 qualifier against Luxembourg, with England coming out victorious in a 3-0 win with the winger scoring a brace.

The Fulham starlet admitted to the FA website that he feels at home in the England U19 squad.

He said: "There are excellent players in every England team from the U16s right up to the seniors, so it's not difficult to click with them.

"We all feel at home in this squad, not just me, Izzy and Freddie, but everyone. We're all good players and we enjoy playing with each other."

Could Klinsmann concerns prompt Premier League loan for Dempsey?

The USA manager has reiterated his concern that the former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur star is currently plying his trade in Major League Soccer.

Jurgen Klinsmann's ongoing issue with Team USA star Clint Dempsey opting to play Stateside rather than compete in a top European league could be enough to convince the former Fulham and Tottenham Hotspur attacker to head back to the Premier League come January.

A number of MLS stars have moved to England during the off-season in recent years with Landon Donovan and Robbie Keane among the most recent examples.

And in the wake of comments made by the German coach, Dempsey could be tempted to follow a similar path with Klinsmann issuing a coded warning to both the Duce and former AS Roma star Michael Bradley in a recent post-match interview.

Quizzed on whether he felt the pair would be at their sharpest with regular MLS football under their belts, the World Cup winning former player said "There's nothing I can do about it."

"I made it clear with Clint's move back and [Bradley's] move back that it's going to be very difficult for them to keep that same level that they experienced at the places where they were. It's just reality. It's just being honest."

Whether that honesty extends to a scenario whereby Dempsey or Bradley finds themselves dropped from the US roster remains to be seen but it could be enough to convince either one of the pair to push for a temporary switch back to Europe.

Dempsey would have no end of potential suitors, with Queens Park Rangers manager Harry Redknapp likely to be among his main admirers.

The Rangers boss previously tried to lure Jermain Defoe away from the MLS in January and with the Loftus Road club struggling for goals, Dempsey could make for the ideal short-term solution.

A move to Stoke City, meanwhile, could also prove a palatable option, giving Dempsey the chance to link up with his old Fulham boss Mark Hughes at another club in need of an injection of goals and attacking intent.

There's also the option of Aston Villa - a side who previously tried to bring Dempsey to the Midlands only for him to opt for a Spurs move instead.

With the Villans previously benefitting from a mid-season Keane cameo and couple of years back and currently pushing for a top 10 finish, it could be a match made in heaven.

Fulham - Not One But Two!

The local media, in West London, are suggesting that Fulham Football Club could be set to name a new managerial team very shortly.

It`s suggested that the five-man committee will recommend that Kit Symons is handed the job, holding off the challenges of Chris Hughton and Steve Clarke.

However, it is also suggested that Fulham will be advised to appoint a Director of Football with it being suggested that Alan Curbishley is the man chosen to fill that particular position.

If that is so though, we`re a little bemused as to whether Curbishley will take the role considering how badly he was treated when doing something similar when Rene Meulensteen was in charge.

As for when the decision will be announced, sometime after the fixture with Norwich is what the grapevine is telling us!

Fulham want to appoint former West Ham United boss - but not as manager

According to reports emerging from West London, Fulham want to hire Alan Curbishley - but as manager, instead as director of football.

Fulham are still searching for a new manager having sacked German Felix Magath, who was axed in September after a 5-3 defeat at the hands of Nottingham Forest. Magath, formerly of Bayern Munich, couldn't keep Fulham in the Premier League last season, and became the third manager to be sacked in Shahid Khan's spell as Fulham owner - which has lasted just over a year so far.

Martin Jol was the first to go in December, and his compatriot Rene Meulensteen lasted just two months after that as the Cottagers couldn't survive in the top flight no matter who was in charge.

When Meulensteen was appointed, Fulham also offered a role to former Charlton Athletic and West Ham United manager Alan Curbishley, taking on the role as First Team Technical Director - only for him to be sacked alongside ex-Manchester United coach Meulensteen in February.

Now though, with caretaker manager Kit Symons seemingly on the verge of landing the permanent job at Craven Cottage, it seems that Curbishley could be in line for a swift return to Fulham, as West London Sport report that he will be offered the role of Director of Football, working alongside the relatively inexperienced Symons.

However, they also believe that Curbishley is still aggravated by his departure from the club in the first place, and he may need some convincing to come back in the new role, with an announcement over the appointment of a new manager and director football believed to be on the way in the next dew days.
