Kevin mirallas- what a disgrace

Subbed at half time deservedly for refusing to give baines the ball to take a penalty. His team mates were demanding he give the ball to the club's penalty taker but mirallas insisted he took it. He then missed.

That's unforgivable in a team game. Especially jeopardising their chances of winning when the manager/ everyone at the club are under pressure after a poor season. Disappointing from a player I actually really rate.

Very poor

Especially when Baines is in my dream team!!!  :031:

Im the opposite, I'll never pan a player for wanting to score for my club.  Especially one who wants it so bad that he risks the wrath of the manager captain and the fans. I remember a certain fernadez doing the same for us over a free kick against man u

Kasami springs to mind a few years back, against Chelsea I think.

I see your point FB but Baines is their man and he hardly ever (if ever) misses, its poor form from Mirallas

Shocking. Baines 15/16 penalties converted in the PL. Mirallas 0/1 now.

The sceptic in me wonders if he's done that to get a transfer. Still convinced Suarez' munch on Giaccherini was for that reason.

But Ben football is a team game, not 10 guys constructed to always make you the hero. A penalty isn't a free kick,  free kicks happen left right and centre. Penalties happen once every 5 games if you're luck so it is a specialist kick. Baines has always taken them so I think it's very selfish to ignore your team mates for your own glory.

Mirallas also has the privilege of scoring a lot more goals than baines because of their positions so saying it's nice he wants to score at all costs is even more disrespectful to baines and his manager.

They drew 0-0 in the end which makes it even worse. I can see him being sold because that's completely disrespectful to his manager.

I like WBA they are a nice friendly family club --they were extra friendly last year when Stek dropped the ball into their goal - that put us on the steep road down IMO -- can't stand Everton though

I think you could be right. Players are smarter than we give them credit for and I feel the same about suarez.  It's still weird to bite someone

I don't mind wba.  I was there too but I wasn't as keen on going there as you are. In the middle of industrial estates with nothing to do but wait outside the ground for the gates to open. I still went there 3 times though lol.

Magath ' s first game and his subs that day should have given us a clue of what was to come. About 6 players swapped positions when burn came on

No he missed at OT and has scored one since then.

I agree that it is a specialist thing and the team specialist should take it. Yes you need confidence to take a spot kick but you also need technique that holds up under pressure. Most players seem to wander up and hope for the best but it should be a routine like Johnny Wilkinsons penalty kicks. There should be no excuse for missing a penalty in my mind!

Yes. It's important to have a penalty taker you have confidence in and who himself has total confidence in his ability.

We've been fortunate in this respect. Murph only missed one for us - probably the most important one he took - fortunately he netted the keepers save! Berbatov was so confident you felt sorry for the keeper.

zschwartz

would've been different had he drawn the foul, etc...  i'd rather have players on my side wanting to take them than not; lets sneak in a quick bid before the window closes.

Despite my dislike of berbatov ill give credit where it's due. I think he is the best penalty taker I've ever seen and I don't just mean Fulham.  I mean ever.  I don't think he ever worried about missing and most keepers just knew he was going to score.

As for Murphy, another great pen man but I believe your tally is slightly inaccurate. Funny enough Murphy claims it's the only penalty he's ever missed too, he tells the story all the time on talksport.  But I'm pretty certain Murphy almost kicked the ball into bishops park against CSKA sofia before Gera gave us a 1-0 win. Not many people remember that one

"It's a shame we never had someone steal them off of Dempsey"

That made me splutter Ben.... Brilliant, still have the video of last minute one against the Filth on my phone with me whispering "Come on Demps" ..... That still hurts.

Baird had good game,.......think he touched it twice in the first half!
The atmosphere's fresh and the debate lively.

That one still hurts, didn't Eidur Gudjohnsson fancy it but Dempsey insisted.  I didn't ever get it with Demps, he was useless at penalties

I think Berbatov was often very close to being illegal, he didn't quite come to a standstill.

What he did, which I find remarkable, was to look up to see where the keeper was going. This goes against everything I ever learnt about keeping your eye on the ball. But then Berba was...different.

Danny is quite right. Murph did miss against CSKA - I (and obviously, he!) had forgotten that one.

aaronmcguigan

Wouldnt have been a story if he had scored, I doubt he'd be subbed either.

Shows his confidence and lack of harmony in that dressing room
