Crystal Palace striker Dwight Gayle set for Fulham loan switch with Connor Wickham's arrival imminent

The Championship side have made a loan bid after the Eagles made their move for Wickham from Sunderland

Loan move: Dwight Gayle celebrates a goal for Palace

Fulham will sign Dwight Gayle on loan from Crystal Palace this week.

The Cottagers have moved for the forward after Alan Pardew swooped for £9million Sunderland striker Connor Wickham, reports the Sunday People.

Gayle has been pushed down the pecking order at Selhurst Park after the arrival of Wickham and Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford.

And Pardew is anxious to reduce the wage bill to account for these new arrivals.

Gayle has mostly been on the bench since his £6m switch from Peterborough two years ago.

But a move across London to join up with Kit Symons will enable the frontman to kickstart his career at Craven Cottage.

Fulham Taking Palace Striker on Loan!

Speculation emerging in the last half hour or so suggests that Fulham are set to acquire a new striker.

Having played Crystal Palace in a friendly fixture yesterday (Saturday), the inference being bandied about by the Mirror is that the Palace striker Dwight Gayle is set to join us at Craven Cottage.

The deal will, so our source says, see Gayle arrive on a season long loan.

Gayle has seen his position in the Crystal Palace pecking order drop after the Selhurst Park outfit brought Chelsea`s Patrick Bamford to the club on a season long loan whilst also being set to acquire Connor Wickham, from Sunderland, in a £9 million deal.

In my opinion, if the deal is sealed Dwight Gayle will be a decent acquisition for Fulham Football Club.

Crystal Palace's Dwight Gayle set for Fulham loan; mistake on behalf of the Eagles?

Connor Wickham's impending Crystal Palace move could see Dwight Gayle sent on loan to Fulham.

Fulham will sign Dwight Gayle on loan from Crystal Palace this week, according to the Mirror.

The Mirror suggest the Cottagers have moved for the forward after Alan Pardew swooped for Sunderland striker Connor Wickham.

Gayle has been pushed down the pecking order at Selhurst Park after the signing of Chelsea striker Patrick Bamford and the expected arrival of Wickham.

It is suggested that a move across London to join up with manager Kit Symons at Fulham will enable the front man to reignite his career, while also serving to lessen the burden of the current Crystal Palace wage bill.

Palace mistake?

Gayle has mostly featured as a substitute since his switch from Peterborough two seasons ago but this has not stopped him from being among the goals. He has been top scorer (based on goals in all competitions) in both seasons he's spent with the club - eight in 2013-14 and 10 in 2014-15 - despite starting just 19 games in the past two years.

He made 11 starts for the Eagles last term, scoring on five occasions, while fashioning a further 15 key passes.

The 24-year-old has made the step up from third-tier football with relative ease and the Crystal Palace fans have been treated to moments of quality throughout his time at Selhurst Park.

Nonetheless, with Glenn Murray, Patrick Bamford, Marouane Chamakh and now Wickham also on the club's books, it is unlikely he would have settled for a bit-part role ahead of the upcoming season.

A loan move to Fulham provides the opportunity for the player to impress in the Championship, before making his return to the Palace set-up next season, where he could go on to establish himself as a key player under Alan Pardew. But is it a mistake to let him go?

Colchester Reaction

Mike Rigg, who watched the Fulham XI game against Colchester United on Saturday to help Manager Kit Symons monitor all first team players, has praised the team for a dominant first half display in which Dembele scored in the 1-0 victory.

"We looked dominant and in control the first half," said Fulham's Chief Football Officer, "but we were disappointed in the second half to lose the momentum of how we approached it in the first half.

However despite the second half dip in form, Rigg was overall impressed with the group of players who made the trip to Essex at the same time that Fulham were playing Crystal Palace in the last pre-season friendly at Craven Cottage, and he will be reporting back to Symons on Monday morning.

"With two games on at the same time we wanted to give as many of the First Team players match time," Rigg explained. "What was important was that rather than one or two of the players maybe picking up only 15 or 20 minutes against Crystal Palace, that they got out and got a full 90 minutes just before the season starts.

"I was pleased with Ryan Tunnicliffe and Matt Smith," said Rigg. "As the two most senior players there, the way that they applied themselves was excellent. It was tough going there and I am sure it would have been quite easy for them to have one eye on what was going on with Crystal Palace, but they were excellent with how they approached the game.

"Moussa took his goal really well," Rigg continued. "It was during our best spell in the first half. Jack Grimmer put a great cross into the box fairly deep and Moussa finished it with a really good header from a distance.

"But what counts now is that everybody is ready to kick on when we go to Cardiff on Saturday."
